Looking for a partner in crime, someone to steal a horse, not a couch potato. While desperate singles are still looking for Mr. or Mrs. Right with these words, Electric Motion satisfies such desires in series. Admittedly, a motorcycle is not an adequate substitute for cuddling, holding hands and so on. But you don’t have to invite them to dinner either.

Electric hiking trialer

But now enough of the half-baked couple counseling. “What exactly is that device?”, should be of much more interest. Electric Motion is a French manufacturer that gave birth to its first – you guessed it – electric trial motorcycle in 2010. With the Escape, they finally combined this – now very mature – technology with more value for everyday use: a version with a bench and optional approval (COC, lights, license plate holder) as a light motorcycle. The concept is similar to the popular hiking trial riders Beta Alp and Montesa 4-Ride – only without petrol.

Quiet, light and high-torque

The advantages and disadvantages should have been obvious by 2021, the Escape will serve them par excellence: quiet, light, high-torque, inconspicuous, uncomplicated on the one hand, missing “Braaap”, Socket requirements and charging time (around two hours with a fast charger) on the other hand. So it will be up to you for a long time to decide which of them is more important.

For the primary purpose of the Escape, however, there is a clear decision-making aid and a few test impressions. First of all, as already mentioned, she is an escape helper: her territory begins where the road ends. Does not mean it is not a practical city vehicle. However, the ergonomics speak against permanent seat operation. “Stand up for the champions”, The Escape hums and then maneuvers beginners to experts playfully over loose ground, roots and stone fields. About 60 kilometers, according to the data sheet. This is realistic with an economical driving style and mild weather, with the most aggressive mapping three and a lot less full throttle. A Schuko socket is sufficient for charging; the 14 kilo battery remains in the motorcycle, but can theoretically be removed.

For more range, the optional programming of the left lever has proven itself “PRB”, an electric motor brake that recovers energy and almost completely replaces the mechanical brakes on anticipatory city trips. The variant “PELS” simulates an electrical switch coupling, which, however, offers little added value.
