After a day of testing on the Pau-Arnos circuit, the Dark Dog Academy executives selected Sylvain Barrier, a 17-year-old, to run the rest of the French 600 Supersport championship alongside Lucas de Carolis..

And the winner is … Sylvain Barrier! After only two events, the young Dark Dog Academy supervised by Marc Fontan and Michel Augizeau had to resolve to part with one of its two pilots (read).

"I can understand that some young people may feel suffocated in a structure such as ours, explains Marc Fontan. This is undoubtedly what happened with David Perret and we had to separate. This kind of decision is never easy to make. But in a championship which has only six events, we cannot afford to waste too much time. The main objective of our team is not to obtain results immediately "Of course, if they are there, that’s better. But above all, we want to reveal talent and allow young drivers to take advantage of our structure and our know-how to go as far as possible. It is perhaps this message that we did not know how to convey to David ".

A second pilot was therefore missing. This is why the Dark Dog Academy met on Thursday April 13th on the Pau circuit to test two young talents. And we can trust Marc Fontan when it comes to casting !

At 18, Jonathan Castanet already has seven seasons of competition. Winner of the Coupe de France Promosport 125 in 2005, this year he races the Promosport 600 on a Honda CBR.

With his head firmly planted on his shoulders, he has already participated in the selections for the Prix de l’Avenir in 125. "I am impressed by the quality of the structure and its very professional side", confides Jonathan, who is one of the hopes in any case. French speed: "this day is to benefit from personal experience and even if I am not selected, I am delighted to have been able to work with them".

For his part, Sylvain Barrier has a completely different profile. One year younger than Jonathan, Sylvain comes from the Antipodes, Mauritius and then South Africa exactly, where he entered the 500 Super Single (the equivalent of a local Supermotard championship). two years ago.

Last year he took part in a few races in 1000 Pomosport in France riding a Yamaha R1. Qualified fifth at Croix-en-Ternois, third fastest time and eighth in the race at Carole despite a crash, young Sylvain has potential !

In the end, it is him that Michel Augizeau and Marc Fontan have retained. "We took the lap times, of course, but they were not decisive in our choice," says Marc. "Sylvain’s youth weighed in the balance: he is 17 years old and that restores a little the balance with Lucas who is" already "19. However, we do not let Jonathan down and if he needs a helping hand during his 600 season, we’ll know how to give him! "

Sylvain Barrier is therefore taking over from David Perret and, curiously, it was the first time he had driven a 600. "It’s very lively, very light compared to a 1000! It took me a session and a half to m Then we worked on the suspension settings. Being surrounded by competent people immediately offers incredible working comfort! For me, it’s like a dream! The people are great, the bikes are at the top! the trap would be to fall into the easy … But when you integrate this type of structure, you have to give your all! "

Interview Lucas de Carolis

Injured to the wrist at Magny-Cours, Lucas de Carolis will not be able to participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans next weekend. Regardless, his start to the season is more than positive within the Dark Dog Academy structure. Interview.

Moto-Net: How do you analyze your start to the season ?
Lucas de Carolis: Very positive! I didn’t think I was in the rhythm of Da Costa, Lagrive and Muscat. I, who disembarked from the Promosport 600s, came in fourth at the start of the championship at Le Mans and in the dry! It is very encouraging and it makes a lot of morale! It was a bit more difficult at Magny-Cours in the wet. I made a lot of learning mistakes and broke my scaphoid during practice … But I still managed to start and I finished 9th starting 19th on the grid. It’s not so bad !

Moto-Net: What do you think of the Dark Dog Academy ?
Lucas de Carolis: It is a very nice structure where we are taken care of 100%. It’s very comfortable for the pilots: I no longer travel with my little caravan on the circuits and I have people around me. I benefit from a great experience and I feel free to concentrate on my driving. It’s important for a youngster like me who still has a lot to learn !

Moto-Net: Precisely, in your opinion, which areas are fishing the most ?
Lucas de Carolis: I have to increase the efficiency of my driving and better manage the practice sessions. This means being efficient immediately, as soon as I ride. This is not yet the case. With the Dark Dog Academy, the mechanics immediately translate my feelings, adjust the machine perfectly and I move much faster. It’s up to me to live up to their skills … that’s the key to success !
