Bubba, the garden gnome with a chopper – he ran into the editorial team in 2013. She generously offered it to her readers. Condition: an idea was needed. For example, showing the little ones the big world. Markus promised it – and kept his word.

Markus Pintzinger is a MOTORRAD reader. But not just anybody, but the one from Thailand. Because Markus has been living there for ten years. When MOTORRAD was looking for a new home via Facebook in 2013 for the garden gnome that Detlev Louis had sent to the editors without asking (“for testing”), Markus offered him asylum in Asia: you could “send him around the world and photograph it in front of the coolest backgrounds – like in the movie ‘Amelie’ ”. The editorial team immediately agreed: “Great idea, Markus, do it!” The main thing was to get rid of the thing – not even our editor-in-chief, who is usually committed to outsiders, wanted it.

So Bubba, 19.99 euros expensive, “made of ceramic, robust and durable” (original sound from Louis catalog), set off on the trip to Bangkok in a box. Uff, so we got rid of that. But what we hadn’t dared to hope for, happened: Markus Pintzinger kept his word! And handed the dwarf, “hand-painted, weather-resistant, color-fast”, to a friend who immediately brought it back to Europe: Romania, Greece and Italy were the first stops for the 1,744 gram chopper pilot.

Back at Markus’s home in Thailand, he carelessly entrusted his little friend to an Australian. New destination: outback. Instead it became a cellar shelf. And that looks pretty much the same everywhere, whether it’s in Dortmund or Down Under, at least nobody photographed him there. After a year, Markus asked the little man (height: 31 centimeters) back and showed him a little bit of Thailand, as compensation for the Australian bankruptcy. It is unclear whether it was Bubba himself, who at some point had the red pointed cap from the vagabond life, or Markus, as his dwarf guardian, decided that. In any case, the dwarf has now settled down on his chopper. Namely in Bolzano in South Tyrol. Markus ‘brother lives there, and next to his Yamaha SR 500, the little travel dwarf now leads a contemplative existence – in the garden, where it belongs.
