To the flanks of the Eiger, Monch, Jungfrau and on wonderful paths through the Bernese Oberland. That would be the big solution. However, our tour through the enchanted Gantrisch Nature Park proves that even small areas can have lush charms.

Friborg is an ideal starting and ending point thanks to its good connection to the A12 motorway. Arrive in Friborg in the evening, explore the lovely little town on foot and spend the night there. The next morning, have a leisurely breakfast and, if necessary, take a tour of the town. It is enough if you start late in the morning and then do the whole lap to the Schwarzsee shortly before the end. There you can stay overnight very well in alpine surroundings. A cheese fondue at the end rounds off the Swiss experience wonderfully.

route: 180 km / Travel time: 5-6 hours (1.5 days with comfortable driving and overnight stay)

1. Start in Friborg:
Start in Friborg from the historic Bernese bridge. From here it goes over the modern high bridge over the valley. In Schwarzenburg you can reach the Bernese Mittelland and the Gantrisch Nature Park. From here, behind the Rostigraben, German is spoken again.

2. Smallest lanes through well-tended pastureland
In Schwarzenburg take the first small street on the right to Guggisberg. From there via Gambach to Mamishaus back on the main road. Right towards Riggisberg and immediately right again to Graben, there left to Ruti-Riggisberg. Here left towards Riggisberg and immediately right again to Wattenwil in the Hobbitreich Auenland.

3. Fantastic views of the Bernese region
In Wattenwil keep left and shortly before Riggisberg on the main road left over great combinations of curves up to the Gurnigel Berghaus with a fantastic view of the Bernese Oberland. You can stop here – but it is self-service.

4. Wooded mountains around the Pfyffe
Along the mountain range of Gantrisch, Burglen and Ochsen, continue over the saddle and in the second bend right over Guggisberg towards Schwarzenburg to the junction to the left towards Schwarzsee. A little later the next tiny street in front of the white half-timbered house left again via Hirschmatt back to Riffenmatt. Immediately there on the right and right again behind the exit sign. Shortly before Sangernboden left to Ottoleuen (Ottoleuebad). Now over a small piece of gravel to the T-junction. Here turn right back towards Gurnigel Panoramastrabe.

Via Sangernboden to Zollhaus. From the customs house up to the Schwarzsee. Before going up to the attenberg for a great photo of the lake in front of the Alps. Back to Schwarzsee.

Last stage: via Zollhaus, Plasselb and Tentlingen back to Friborg.
