GP of Aragon FP1-FP2: the three Yamaha in the lead this Friday
Delayed and upset by the cold this morning, free practice session 1 of the GP of Aragon 2020 saw its lap times swept away by the drivers this afternoon in FP2. Vinales, Quartararo and Morbidelli trust the first three places. First Ducati rider, Zarco is 11th.
Leaving Le Mans last Sunday, the Intercontinental Circus hoped to warm up in Aragon. Unfortunately, the temperature was so cold this morning (less than 10 ° on the tarmac!) That the race management preferred to delay the entry into the MotoGP track, and to postpone the runs on Saturday by half an hour, Sunday warm-ups (!) 20 minutes.
- MNC special file :
Although flooded with sunshine, the track did not allow the pilots to exploit the full potential of their racing machines during FP1. However, the conditions being the same for everyone, the Yamaha could be satisfied with their morning…

This midday, Maverick Vinales was at the top of the first timesheet, thanks to a passable time: 1 ‘49.866 to cover the 5.007 km of the Spanish route, that is to say a second and a half more than last year, while "Top Gun "occupied second place in FP1 2019 … a second and a half behind the breathtaking Marc Marquez !
One breath away from n ° 12 and the only other man to have gone under 1 ’50, Franco Morbidelli beat his teammate, our compatriot, Fabio Quartararo, by a quarter of a second. As a reminder, the M1 n ° 46 does not participate in this Grand Prix: tested positive for Covid-19, Valentino Rossi confines himself to his home…
. dominated the FP2 with the fastest time in 1m47.771s, the only rider under 1m48
The MICHELIN Power Slick tires improved their performance this year in FP2: 1m47.771s vs 1m48.014s in 2019

This afternoon, the conditions were much better: still bright sun, so 22 ° on the ground! However, the Yamaha have once again monopolized the forefront: their leader, Vinales, again set the best time of the session: 1 ‘47.771 "against 1’ 48.014 in 2019", welcomes Michelin.
This time, our tasty "20 French" climbs to second position, turning a quarter of a second slower than his future teammate, but two tenths faster than the current one … and a half second faster than Joan Mir, embarrassed in end of session by Petrucci. Fourth, the n ° 36 Suzuki is as a reminder Fabio’s main rival in the championship !
This is what riding on the limit looks like! not holding back after his crash this morning!
– MotoGP (@MotoGP)
Cal Crutchlow commands admiration – or borders on unconsciousness ?! – by completing the Top 5 on his factory Honda, despite his scar on his right forearm and his left foot injury. Aleix Espargaro also distinguished himself by hoisting his Aprilia to sixth place, just ahead of his brother Pol’s KTM.
Alex Marquez, Takaaki Nakagami and Alex Rins close the Top 10 and stand in a handful of tenths of a second … But beware, Johann Zarco is not far: he can hope to integrate the Top 10 tomorrow morning in FP3, to access directly to the final session Q2 !
loves a top speed record!
The rider has hit 351.8km / h through the speed trap, the fastest ever seen at !
– MotoGP (@MotoGP)
Extremely fast, the Ducatis obviously have trouble "turning": Pecco Bagnaia who broke the maximum speed record for the track (351.8 km / h) is relegated to 19th position, while Danilo Petrucci (winner of the GP de France), Jack Miller (on the 2019 podium with Marquez and Dovizioso) and "Desmodovi" (third in the provisional) seem to be heading towards Q1 … To be continued on MNC, stay tuned !
