You don’t see something like that every day. This construction is actually a coffee machine.

Knucklehead with boiler pressure

With the Da Vincie “motor machine”, a coffee machine is now available that is visually reminiscent of a Harley-Davidson engine.

Where the carburetor is usually located, this Knucklehead Twin has a brewing group. And the rocker boxes, the rocker arm housings reminiscent of the knuckles of a fist, have outgrown steam taps for frothing milk. Instead, there is no crankcase with a dry sump below, but a four-liter kettle. The manometer that measures the vapor pressure is reminiscent of a speedometer. It’s not a real Harley – but an original Da Vincie. Manfred Buchner calls the result “motor machine”. He’s made up the one-man company DaVincie, which made a name for itself in the custom scene years ago with its idiosyncratic air filter housings or external oil tanks with portholes. But for six months now, the customizer from Lake Starnberg has been building espresso machines with high-quality Italian technology and a traditional American look.

Up to then functional two-cylinder completely converted

The machines are so-called dual circuits, which, in addition to the steam pressure required for brewing coffee, also have permanent pressure available in a separate steam circuit, e.g. for frothing milk. Including the rotary pump, all coffee machine parts are Italian branded goods. The V-Twin built in Milwaukee in the 1930s is a Knucklehead replica from a company in Bavaria. The 1200 is actually built for customizing Harleys. For use as the housing of an espresso machine, Manfred Buchner had to convert the previously fully functional two-cylinder. For example, by powder-coating the cylinder sliding surfaces. “So that it doesn’t rust on the inside,” explains Buchner.

The approximately 45 kilogram heavy “Motor machine” is available for 8,990 euros.

The machines are around 60 centimeters high and weigh 45 kilograms. The substructure with headlights and (safety) sight glass is made of 2.5 mm thick stainless steel sheet. Prices: from 8,990 euros, depending on the equipment. Automatic dosing and electronic control for professional catering use are also possible. More at www.davincie.de.
