At first, they seduced us with chewing gum and cola. Then they set up Elvis Presley, Malibu Alert, and the iPhone. The Americans are doing everything to seduce us, and Harley is no slouch: the manufacturer from Wisconsin continues its offensive on the European market, with models more and more adapted to the way we ride – evidenced by the XR 1200. This 883 Superlow is there to cast an even wider cast than the traditional Sportster. The latter is made to introduce the neophyte to the Harleys; the Superlow intends to become an even more accessible machine, almost a CB 500 of the rider.

Low seat (695mm), with a more ‘European’ front end with a 120 front tire and 29 ° caster angle, the 883 L intends to play the difference in the field of maneuverability. With its Michelin Scorcher rims (specially designed for it) and the geometry of its chassis, the machine looks more lively, more efficient, and above all more natural to drive than its peers. With more conventionally placed controls, the rider’s arms will also be less strained while riding. No longer getting on a Harley but a roadster should perhaps shock purists a bit, but this will broaden the scope of the brand: the HD look with the driving postions of a bike from the old continent, it makes you think.

This name Superlow is not trivial. This super-low 883 also extends its handlebars (and especially its padded, single-seater saddle) to “not very tall” and young ladies. The suspensions slide on an ultra-short travel of 108mm at the front and 54mm at the rear. Ideal for bringing the seat down to the ground…. but certainly not great for comfort. Such a short run is far from ideal for proper cushioning work. The kind of annoyance you put aside by vibrating alongside the twin at 45 ° when snorting. Its fifty or so canassons are not intended to tease young Japanese fighters. So, let’s take this umpteenth version of the 883 for its priesthood: character and look. And now a more instinctive ride.
