Honda CBF 600 S 2004

It’s not just hypersports in life. Honda understood this well and will not offer for 2004 only its CBR 1000 RR. In addition to the renewal of the CB 500, the world’s leading manufacturer is betting on a nice roadster, which will fit between the CB 500 and the 600 Hornet. Developed from the latter, it offers the same type “mono-backbone” frame as well as the same engine but lowered by nearly 20% of its power for less sporty use.. This deficit is obtained by modifying the camshafts and intake ducts, in order to promote low and mid-range speeds. Power and torque (also declining) come sooner, and the final drive is shorter. This should offer a good dose of pep for this touring roadster which comes head-to-head with the Bandit 600 S. With the exception that the CBF is not lacking in tips: the saddle is adjustable, via a BTR key, on 3 heights, the screen can go up 5 cm, and the handlebar mounts also adjust to 10 mm. Increasingly concerned with safety, Honda offers optional ABS, hitherto unknown at this level of the range. The fork crown (a tidbit inspired by Varadero) and the various options such as the pretty top-case allow this city car to taste the joys of travel, without fear of polluting its environment. Like everyone else, the CBF 600 S must adapt to Euro 2 standards. It meets them via a catalyzed muffler and the widely used system for injecting fresh air into the exhaust. Too bad the fuel gauge is missing; otherwise, the dashboard is complete. The chassis and the HMAS suspensions should perform without concern for their tasks, namely a multi-purpose use but without the “street-bike” spirit of the big sister Hornet.

HONDA CBF 600 SNot only has Honda provided tips for this new “road” so that it adapts to the rider’s morphology, but above all, the saddle and screen are adjusted in 5 minutes with a screwdriver. It is clear: the target of the CBF is all bikers; men, women, leeks or pilots who do not swear by the banner of sports or custom. This impression is reinforced during the grip. This is easy, the engine and controls are courteous and make driving pleasant. The propellant is much more available (especially at mid-range) than on the Hornet, thus allowing a more smooth ride. Less turbulent but also less exciting. This 4-cylinder is not a sensation factory – but that is not its vocation. No, his thing is to take you to work every day, take a weekend walk with his partner, go to the coast on a Saturday morning … and why not put a little angle on the way up to the pass of compass brake. Less sporty than a Fazer, it still shows consistency and stability. The suspensions jerk a little on rough roads, but on neutral ground, the bike gets away with flying colors. Return to the valley and its straight lines. A few strokes of the cruciform, bubble raised to the max, and we drive at serious speed (unreasonable?) Without having our head torn off. The saddle foam does not have the softness of an armchair, but the serene riding position is an undeniable asset for everyday life. The other centerpiece of the CBF is its braking. Powerful and biting (just what is needed), we must add the ABS (option) which kicks in at the right time. A real plus for safety displayed at a more than reasonable price.

Certainly not very exciting but oh so useful, the mini road from Honda comes at the right time in a market where novelty is too rare. The Bandit is queen there but looks with a bad eye on this formidable competitor. You could almost say it’s Honda’s Fazer, less sport and more GT.

Want large spaces? The Special Edition of the CBF 600 S offers you the suitcases, the top-case and their supports for only 200 € more. Please note, the series is limited.
