Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade 2006

OK – We’re not laughing anymore. Tired of hearing various criticisms from both sides – “it’s weird that bottom fairing …”; “too heavy…” ; “lack of watts …”; “Not worth a …” – the CBR 1000 RR returns with a much meaner attitude. Baptized at its origins (’92) “Fireblade (blade of fire)”, the Honda is now clearly more incisive, sharper, more “razor blade”. The competition don’t give her a freebie, she won’t either.

First step, a little facelift. Still as much affiliated with the MotoGP RCV 211, the CBR is today more feline, more bestial, with a more severe look that has lost its air intake gills. The face is thinner and more incisive, thus agreeing with the more conventional fairing sides, at the same time stylish, taut and even suggesting a certain flexibility in the design. In its red and black livery, the 1000 is simply coated in real war paint – it’s bloody, it’s nasty, and it makes you want to provoke other sportsmen to a good big arsouille.
And the RR went to the weight room to have a bite to his playmates. First, horses. Optimize the flow of gases, review the shape of the combustion chambers, increase the compression ratio, install new double concentric springs on the intake valves, replace the crankshaft with a lighter but just as resistant model, and then also push back the red zone from 11,650 to 12,200 rpm … That is the work done by the engine manufacturers. And conclusion, the CBR announces a power now established at 178 hp. Is this figure obtained with or without the forced air intake? In any case, it allows the Honda mill to fight on equal terms with that of the Suzuki GSX-R 1000. The fight will not be completely fair: the CBR, although lighter, carries 10 kgs more. than the Gex.

HONDA CBR 1000 RR FIREBLADEAnd yet, the Honda has lost weight. Its weight drops to 176 kg. It must be said that we grabbed weight wherever we could: 100 gr on the electronic control unit, 100 gr on the alternator housing (the aluminum being replaced by magnesium), 700 gr on the cooling circuit with among others a new radiator, 300 gr on the brake discs, 1460 gr on the exhaust line. Put end to end, it starts to make weight.

It is not only the improvement in the weight / power ratio that will change the handling of the Blade. The fitting of a 42-tooth crown (40 previously), the reduction in the length of the swingarm (- 5 mm) and the wheelbase (- 10 mm), the reduction of the caster angle (by 23 ° 45 to 23 ° 30), all this will bring more liveliness to the Honda hypersport. The 2006 CBR 1000 RR has slaughtered its cards, it only asks to destroy the R1, 10R and GSX-R – The more the fight continues, the more these sportsmen have the knife between their teeth.

Honda’s desire has always been to offer the best of technology, to combine power, efficiency, driving pleasure … and great confidence in the handlebars of its sports cars, even if it means sacrificing a few crumbs of a tenth of a second on the altar of the track. 100% sport? Certainly. 0% concession? Of course not. It’s a Honda, with the brand’s philosophy of letting you control the machine..
What sets the CBR 1000 RR apart from other hypersports is that feeling of confidence it gives you. An ounce of cordiality that allows you to enjoy the improvements mentioned above more calmly. These do not seem of overwhelming importance on paper – On the attack, it’s certainly something else.

HONDA CBR 1000 RR FIREBLADEDo you like sportswomen who fart in your face, who have watts up to the ceiling to be completely overwhelmed, who claim a character worse than your mother-in-law …!?! In this case, drop the CBR 1000 RR. For her, what matters is the pleasure of driving a big sports car with a lot of horsepower, a lot of safety, and no misplaced overflows. “Total Control” means something to you ?
