E-starter instead of kick starter

For 2017, the Honda CRF 450 R underwent a thorough model update: lighter, more agile and with a new Unicam engine. The electric starter is now available as standard for the 2018 vintage.

Honda’s flagship motocross, the Honda VS.The RF 450 R will be delivered with an electric starter as standard in 2018; the electric starter previously cost 700 euros extra. The electric starter draws electricity from a lithium-ion battery, the kick starter is no longer necessary.

The new Honda CRF 450 RX for the 2018 model year.

The racing-ready Honda CRF 450 RX also gets the new lithium-ion battery. According to Honda, the weight saving is 600 grams.

The 2018 models are already rolling out to dealers this summer.

The facelift 2017 included:

  •      Intake ducts straightened
  •     Unicam valve control now with rocker arms, larger inlet valves
  •     Compression ratio increased from 12.5 to 13.5: 1
  •     Oil supply shared for crankshaft drive and gearbox instead of separately
  •     11 percent more torque
  •     Clutch downsized with seven instead of eight friction disks
  •     E-start kit as standard (2018)

  • New and lighter aluminum frame, with optimized rigidity
  • Tank made of titanium sheet, 0.5 kg lighter
  • 49er Showa fork with steel springs instead of air suspension
  • Exhaust system redesigned, shorter rear silencer
  • Front silhouette 30 mm narrower
