Honda RC30: Japanese reissue original parts
Honda RC30 Forever
The Japanese are relaunching original parts
In 1987 Honda brought the legendary RC30. In order to keep the homologation model for the Superbike World Championship alive for a long time to come, Honda is releasing numerous parts.

The Honda VFR 750 R – internal model abbreviation RC30 – was first launched in 1987 in accordance with the World Superbike homologation rules. The edition was limited to 5,000 copies worldwide and at around 28,000 marks the RC30 was extremely expensive at the time. With numerous racing successes, the RC30, packed full of the purest racing technology, became a legend. In 1988 and 1989, Fred Merkel won the Superbike World Championship with the RC30. Victories on the Isle of Man in the hands of famous riders such as Joey Dunlop, Carl Fogarty, Steve Hislop and Philip McCallen further cemented the reputation. Even today the surviving specimens are cherished and cared for and sometimes traded dearly.
Around 150 replica parts
So that the RC30 fans can enjoy their superbike for a long time, Honda launched the RC30 Forever program in Japan as early as 2020. Under this title, the Japanese build around 150 original parts of the VFR 750 R. Now RC 30 Forever is coming to Europe. From May 2021, the replica parts will be officially available from Honda dealers. The numbers are limited, however.

RC30 retirees had to do it again
At the beginning of the project “RC30 Forever” An examination of the RC30 archives conducted in 2017 revealed that none of the original wooden models or shapes for the RC30 had been preserved. It was clear that the original drawings would be needed to move the project forward. Like all motorcycles produced at the time, the manufacture of the RC30 was based on hand-drawn 2D wireframe plans from which models and shapes were created. Compared to modern methods of 3D computer modeling and digital drawing, these blueprints contain far fewer specific details, which made it difficult to reproduce the new parts. The available blueprints have been digitized, enlarged 1: 1 and compared to existing parts borrowed from the remaining RC30s within the Honda family and owner clubs to ensure their accuracy.

Even so, there were still clear and obvious gaps in the detailed information required to manufacture the parts to the appropriate quality. To ensure that the parts meet the very high standards required, it was necessary to involve the original RC30 development team members, many of whom are already retired, to tap into their expertise and experience.
Conclusion
Honda wants to keep the legend of the RC30 alive for a long time to come and is releasing numerous original parts with a lot of effort.
