Honda GL 1800 GOLDWING with AIRBAG 2010

Menus

A great first for Honda which presents the first motorcycle equipped with an AIRBAG. It is no longer a project or a utopia but a reality which will arrive in 2007; and it is the sumptuous 1800 Goldwing road which was chosen as the flagship of this technology.
After a study on the accidentology of 2 wheels, it was noted that a frontal collision appeared in the great majority of accidents. Honda therefore launched a program to create an energy absorption system on impact. The manufacturer started the development of this system in the 90s, then a prototype was installed in a Goldwing 1500 at the end of that decade. It was also adapted on a prototype of the big Silverwing scooter in 2004 to be finally operational on the GL 1800 which appeared in 2007.

– The airbag is similar to those used in an automobile. Positioned in a housing on top of the tank, it inflates on impact with pressurized gas housed in a cylinder. This bag is kept attached to the motorcycle by 2 straps and its characteristic shape prevents the rider from slipping on either side..

– The electronic management unit constantly receives information from the sensors located on the fork tubes and compares them with the data it contains in its memory. – The sensors are double on each fork leg. Located at the optimum point of impact detection, these 4 elements adapt without the need to modify the fork..

– In the event of a frontal impact, the airbag deploys and absorbs kinetic energy in approximately 0.15 sec..

Honda’s AIRBAG system increases your bill by just over 2 plates. A substantial sum in absolute terms but which will not feel much on a machine which in 2009 exceeded € 30,000 – That is almost 12% more on the note. The price of exclusivity, security, or the panache of a pioneer ?
