In addition to some new items for the 2020 season, IXS is also presenting a completely new technology for 2021 at EICMA: The Hydro-Bot membrane is designed to remove moisture at the push of a button.

Although the Montevideo jacket will not be available to buy with the Hydro-Bot system in the coming year, it was still used IXS the opportunity at EICMA 2019 to showcase this new technology. We were amazed when the test setup showed us how moisture seeps through a membrane at the push of a button and – for demonstration – can also be brought back again.

Electro-osmosis in the membrane

The basic building block is a breathable membrane that is sewn into the back of the jacket. An electrical bar system is incorporated into this, which is supposed to transport sweat away from the body by means of current impulses with very low voltage. For this purpose, billions of pores are distributed across the Hydro-Bot panel. The system can be controlled via a small box in the inside pocket. This is unplugged for washing.

Declaration of war against moisture

Whether in summer or in the pouring rain, nobody needs moisture on the body when riding a motorcycle. The new technology should remove up to ten times more of it than ordinary membranes and thus keep up with the amount of human sweat. The Hydro-Bot membrane can be zipped out of the Montevideo jacket as desired. We are looking forward to the practical test when the membrane comes onto the market in the 2021 season.

Montevideo station wagon already without a bot

The Montevideo RS 1000 touring jacket is still available without electronics in 2020. For 299.95 euros it comes in sizes M to 2XL, with level 2 shoulder, back and elbow protectors, seven outside pockets and a large ventilation system. The matching trousers are available for 249.95 euros.

Conclusion

Electric is the trend – and not just for vehicles. As soon as the new membrane is on the market, we will of course try it out for you. In any case, the idea sounds crazy, and that’s mostly promising.
