With a bold hand on the short-stroke throttle, the engine turns up to 14,000 rpm. The tachometer needle goes all the way.

The Arrow system gives the GSR 750 a beautiful supersport sound and a corresponding racer look.

With no bike in the TunerGP was it funnier to play with the braking and turning points than with this easy-to-control racing flea – and that despite the Mutti-Carrot-Trallala!

Although the GSR 750 doesn’t exactly exude racing, it still has a German championship title. PS drove the Karthin-Suzuki GSR 750 IDM replica – and had fun doing it.

Kjel Karthin is a lightning-fast man. Currently on a 600cc from Hertrampf-Racing in the IDM Supersport and 2014 champion in the GSX-R 750 Challenge, the young Duisburg started 2015 in the IDM SuperNaked – and promptly became German champion. This newly created class was supposed to provide action like in the glorious Superbike days of Eddie Lawson. Unfortunately, there was no great interest among the racers, which should not only have been due to the necessary A license. The approved naked bikes of the IDM pool partners did not have the appearance of the “big buckets” of yore. Yamaha’s MT-09, BMW’s R 1200 R, Kawasaki’s Z 800 or the Suzuki GSR 750 The racing fans were more for strolling bikes and mom carrots, but not for infights, acceleration duels and other wild maneuvers on the slopes.

Kjel brought the GSR 750 to TunerGP anyway – and also in the form of a race replica, ergo: with all the mummy carrot trallala so that the GSR can also be on the road. In view of the 1000s in the field and the other big boobs of this year’s TunerGP, the Karthin-Suzuki GSR 750 IDM replica had to wait patiently for the editor to get into the saddle. What should come out if the engine almost corresponds to the series? But wait a minute: 118 HP compared to 105 in the last series measured are not so bad now. This plus was not only brought about by the Power Commander and the Arrow exhaust system. But Karthin only pimped up the injection and machined the cylinder head.
Stable and yet ultra-handy
Instead of sluggish and hard-hitting standard dampers, the chassis came from Mupo, and father Detlef and son Kjel also fine-tuned the geometry. The caster has increased somewhat over the flatter steering head angle in order to increase stability and target accuracy in aggressive lean angles. The first laps then showed one thing above all: Karthin really has the plan when it comes to setting up this bike as best as possible for the slopes. The Karthin-Suzuki GSR 750 IDM replica was stable in all phases and yet ultra-handy. The Mupo material responded very nicely, Kjel made exactly the right compromise between the necessary racing hardness and enough cushioning for the undulating slope in Lusatia.
Since Kjel is smaller than the PS testers Seitz and Pascal Eckhardt and the Karthin-Suzuki GSR 750 IDM replica does not allow much due to its original purpose, the ergonomics did not quite meet our taste. Instead of this ABM handlebar, we would have preferred a slightly wider, differently angled steering iron.
“Another thing comes after 13,000 rpm”
And the performance? Well, the 118 hp won’t tear you out of the station wagon. “You have to let the tachometer turn up to the stop needle. After 13,000 rpm, something else comes up ”, Kjel laughs after the first turn and adds to our skeptical look:“ Lasts, I’ve tried it long enough. ”
Karthin was right. The extremely easy-revving GSR four-cylinder not only did it to the limit and held, but actually generated that little bit of pressure over the last 1000 revolutions that gives you the extra you need for victories in a class that is tight in terms of performance. And that’s exactly what is great fun, because with no other bike in the TunerGP was it funnier to play with the braking and turning points than with this easy-to-control racing flea – and that despite the Mutti-Carrot-Trallala! It’s actually a shame that the class no longer exists.
