At the fourth Italian manufacturer, the first two letters of the family names of the founders are responsible for the company name. BI-MO-TA: Bianchi, Morri, Tamburini. This only happened in 1973. In its 36-year history, there was a break from 2000 to 2005 due to insolvency – only investors ensured the company’s continued existence. To what extent the turbulence is reflected in the logo remains, like many other things, questionable. Bimota couldn’t or wouldn’t say anything about it. The red bypass of the Bimota-B, it could therefore trace the boss’s favorite curve or be a marketing idea.

With Hyosung it is like with many companies from the Asian region: You can only guess their real clout in Europe. In any case, it is larger than around 3,000 motorcycles imported into Germany would suggest. Since 2007 Hyosung belongs to a group called S&T, which also includes Daewoo. With the ownership structure, the logo has changed. It now shows a kind of wing that signals speed and comfort and is supposed to embody a dynamic image overall. Blue, on the other hand, has always been and continues to be the color of Hyosung. It stands for future-oriented thinking.

There are many brands that listen to Triumph. Two of them built motorcycles, one still does today. Triumph in Hinckley is, as the name should otherwise, a real success story since it was revived in 1984 by John Bloor. The identical lettering in “Living Blue”, lively blue, with the unmistakable curve from R to H. Even earlier, in 1907, the brand had slightly ornate its lettering. The under swing has existed since 1934. By the way: The Nuremberg Triumph plant, the other motorcycle manufacturer of the same name, also used a swing. Up around.

Kick ten minutes. For those who do not want to follow this interpretation, the three letters have stood for Kronreif, Trunkenpolz, Mattighofen and thus for the previous bosses and the company headquarters since 1954. Before that, from 1934 to 1954, Hans Trunkenpolz was the sole founder, the K referred to motor vehicles. The current logo was designed by house-and-yard designer Gerald Kiska in 1994. It has remained almost unchanged since then. Only the font angle is slanted today and the T is drawn higher. The orange expresses independence. Curious: the 1956 logo was already on an orange background.

Without the addition “Motos made in France” the name Voxan could stand for many things. In fact, it is supposed to remind of the volcanic region – in French it means volcano Volcan – in which the Voxan plant is located at the foot of the Puy de Dôme in the French department of the same name. A region to which the company founders have not only felt a connection since they launched the still young Voxan brand on the motorcycle market in 1996.

M and M. No, not the candy, but: Morini and Mazzetti. Alfonso Morini and his companion Mario Mazzetti were already building motorcycles under this name before he launched the Moto Morini brand in 1937. He then took over the double M, as did the eagle. In its design, however, it was very similar to the symbol that fascism, which also emerged in Italy, had given itself in the times of political arbitrariness. The Morini eagle has been looking silized since the early 1970s and has been doing so since the last change in 2005.

The background of the new name is legal in nature. It is also intended to emphasize the proximity to the Austrian importer, Wilhelm Motor Int., WMI for short. The original logo dates from 1992. The most puzzling logo comes from Yamaha: three crossed tuning forks that are difficult to associate with motorcycles. As is so often the case, the key here also lies in history. Yamaha, or rather Torakusu Yamaha, began building accordions in 1887 and founded an organ manufacture two years later – we have the explanation. Yes and no. The tuning forks have a deeper meaning. They symbolize the harmony between the areas of manufacturing, marketing and technology. And they stand for Yamaha’s customers, whether as individuals or groups. Usually red, the logo in motorsport is blue.

Aprilia owes its name to the Lancia Aprilia, which were built from 1937 to 1949. For company founder Alberto Beggio at the time “The best car in the world”. After the Second World War he began to manufacture bicycles under the name Aprilia. Since 1968 the Italian brand has been building motorized two-wheelers in addition to non-motorized two-wheelers. In the latest version, the logo comes with white lowercase letters on a red background. It’s not that colorful on the motorcycles. There the logo appears alternately in silver or gray.

BMW can look back on a longer company history. Here you can see the emblem from 1917 with a gold-colored border. When Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH emerged from Rapp Motorenwerke GmbH in July 1917, it gave itself its own logo based on the door plate of the predecessor company. It should be round, enclosed with double stripes and contain the brand name. So much for the external form. The interior, the four triangular sectors of equal size, alternating blue and white, are in fact a reference to the state colors of Bavaria, even if they are reversed with those of the coat of arms. The trademark protection law of that time was forbidden, “National coat of arms or other national emblems” to be integrated into a trademark.

Even if Soichiro Honda took the truth about the origin and idea of the Honda logo with him to the grave, there is – at least about its origin – a conclusive interpretation. The history of the world’s largest engine manufacturer begins in 1947 with – of course – motorcycles. That “Model A” is an air-cooled two-stroke, mounted on the frame of a men’s bike, with a bed warmer as a tank. In this context, however, what is emblazoned on the front fender of the front wheel is much more important. There you can already see the plastic wing that Honda uses today as a logo in a stylized 2D form around the world.

And another eagle. But what does it have to do with a motorcycle brand like Moto Guzzi? In any case, it is not a past as an aircraft manufacturer. But co-founder Giovanni Ravelli was a pilot in the Italian squadron and was killed in a plane crash. In his honor and as a token of their camaraderie, the other two co-founders, Giorgio Parodi, also a pilot, and mechanic Carlo Guzzi have adopted the eagle, the emblem of the Italian squadron, in their logo. That was in 1921. Today it spreads its wings over the Moto Guzzi lettering, framed by a red, oval area with a gold border. The logo has been three-dimensional since 2005.

’55, ’69, ’93, 2009: Anyone who thinks of soccer world championships successful for Germany is wrong. The numbers represent the years in which the MZ logo was changed. The last change – at the beginning of 2009 – is the least drastic, certainly also in view of the fact that MZ will continue. For the restart, the brand is returning a little to its roots. An arrowhead pointing downwards replaces the previous cone. Arrowhead? Exactly. From 1922 it was already in the logo of Dampfkraftwagen, or DKW for short. The brand with which MZ is historically inextricably linked. The fact that the letters M and Z now mean engine works instead of Zschopau motorcycle works – the brand even operated under the name MuZ, which stood for Zschopau motorcycle and two-wheeler works – is secondary. The colors, silver arrowhead, green shield, white writing and golden border are retained.

Motorcycles and their emblems

Eagles are welcome. Or just a couple of wings. Sometimes just a letter does. What is important is the uniqueness, the unmistakable, the recognition value. The logos of the motorcycle manufacturers are very diverse, but they all have one thing in common: They should give the brand a contemporary face. That is why many have changed over the years. MOTORRAD explains what is behind them.

Aprilia
It was a car Aprilia owes its name. More precisely: the Lancia Aprilia. For company founder Alberto Beggio at the time “The best car in the world”. And because he wanted to build the best bicycles after the Second World War, he didn’t have to think long about under what name to do it. BMW
Do you know the history of the BMW logo? Because of propellers or Bavarian national colors and such. Then watch out. Both belong – in whole or in part – in the realm of myths. When Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH emerged from Rapp Motorenwerke GmbH in July 1917, it gave itself its own logo based on the door plate of the predecessor company. It should be round, enclosed with double stripes and contain the brand name. So much for the external form. It has been cultivated for 75 years and therefore has its own tradition.

Ducati
Sometimes round, sometimes with wings, sometimes in cursive. The Ducati logo has undergone a number of changes in its 60-year history and yet always reflected a key moment in the company’s history. Today’s Ducati logo brings together some of those historic attempts to symbolize the brand. First of all, there is the outer shape, the shield. It should stand for success and prestige. Color: red, the official Italian motorsport livery since the 1920s and a symbol of passion. And then there is the curve, the silver band below the lettering. Harley-Davidson
Hardly any other emblem has such a cult as that “bar & Shield” from Harley-Davidson. It starts with Americans being careful that no one else is using their badge. And if they do give permission, then only with specifications – and they do well to do so. It wasn’t for nothing that counted Harley-Davidson 2008 as the only pure motorcycle manufacturer among the 100 most valuable brands in the world. How did the cult come about? In 1908 that appeared “bar & Shield” (Bar and shield) for the first time on tool boxes on the brand’s motorcycles. The first machines were adorned with a lettering designed by Bill Harley’s Aunt Janet. The logo was used regularly from 1910. On the other hand, there is no record of who invented it. Due to the resemblance to railroad logos from the period, it is speculated that the logo’s creation was inspired by Walter Davidson’s work on the railroad. It was already in orange and black in 1922.

Now it’s getting spiritual. The Honda guys explain their winged logo as “Symbol for dreams that are carried with it”. The trademark protection law of that time forbade \&# 34; National coat of arms or other national emblems \&# 34; to be integrated into a trademark.&# 34;}}, {&# 34; packages&# 34;: {&# 34; big&# 34 ;:&# 34; Benelli is not stingy with signs that stand for courage and strength. The lion was taken over by the Molaroni company. The three stars stand for the victories in motorsport that Antonio – called Tonio – Benelli has achieved. The victory wreath and the lion complete the logo. The history of the world’s largest engine manufacturer begins in 1947 with – of course – motorcycles. That \&# 34; Model A \&# 34; is an air-cooled two-stroke, mounted on the frame of a men’s bike, with a bed warmer as a tank. In this context, however, what is emblazoned on the front fender of the front wheel is much more important. There you can already see the plastic wing that Honda uses today as a logo in a stylized 2D form around the world.&# 34;}}, {&# 34; packages&# 34;: {&# 34; big&# 34 ;:&# 34; https: //img1.motorradonline.de/image-articleDetail-f89f1c28-1339185.jpg&# 34;,&# 34; But what does it have to do with a motorcycle brand like Moto Guzzi? In any case, it is not a past as an aircraft manufacturer. But co-founder Giovanni Ravelli was a pilot in the Italian squadron and was killed in a plane crash. In his honor and as a token of their camaraderie, the other two co-founders, Giorgio Parodi, also a pilot, and mechanic Carlo Guzzi have adopted the eagle, the emblem of the Italian squadron, in their logo. That was in 1921. Today it spreads its wings over the Moto Guzzi lettering, framed by a red, oval area with a gold border. The lettering, which was created in 1946, still shows the founders’ initials. Only a capital B made it into the actual logo. And the font and type of this has also been changed a few times. Only the main color, a red, has remained true to the years.&# 34;}}, {&# 34; packages&# 34;: {&# 34; big&# 34 ;:&# 34; https: //img1.motorradonline.de/image-articleDetail-ce15e3df-1339198.jpg&# 34;,&# 34; Even if it would fit nicely. The emblem comes from a time when motorized locomotion was out of the question. It was created when the company was founded in 1689 and provides a glimpse into the barrel of a musket that Husqvarna built at the time. The three points are the rear sight and the front sight. KTM
Great mopeds. For all those who do not want to follow the interpretation of one or the other KTM fan, the three letters have stood for Kronreif, Trunkenpolz, Mattighofen and thus for the former bosses and the company headquarters since 1954.

Moto Morini
M and M. No, not the candy, but: Morini and Mazzetti. Alfonso Morini and his companion Mario Mazzetti were already building motorcycles under this name before he founded the brand in 1937 Moto Morini brought into being. He then took over the double M, as did the eagle. In its design, however, it was very similar to the symbol that fascistism, which was also emerging in Italy, had given itself in times of political arbitrariness. The Morini eagle has therefore been looking more stylized since the early 1970s and has been doing so since the last change in 2005.

MV Agusta
Mecchanica Verghera Agusta, short: MV Agusta. The logo of the Italian two-wheeler brand, created in 1948, consists of a cogwheel, wing and crown as symbols for technology, aircraft and premium. Mecchanica means: mechanical production. Verghera is a district of Samarate in Varese, where the company is based, and Agusta is the name of the former owner, Count Domenico Agusta. Today, as is known, MV is owned by Harley-Davidson. The origin of the logo goes back to the time when MV only manufactured products for the aviation industry.

Suzuki
S for Suzuki. Michio Suzuki, the company founder. In the mid-1950s, the brand, which was founded 100 years ago as a loom manufacturer, began building cars and motorcycles and developed the S logo. Even today, Suzuki is run by a member of the family: Osamu Suzuki. Although the name is as common in Japan as Muller is with us, Suzuki is one of the best-known brands worldwide. In more than 50 years, the logo itself has never been changed. It was not until 2006 that the Berlin design professor Sven Voelker slightly revised the size relationship between the word mark and the S..

Kawasaki
Cast off was the order of the day Kawasaki in 1878, when the company started its shipbuilding empire. The first motorcycles weren’t launched until 1961 and occupy a comparatively small part of the Kawasaki business. A very emotional one, which should also be expressed in the logo. That “Flying K” symbolizes the challenge of facing the future, says Kawa. Since 2003 it is no longer alone, but only together with the company name and optionally the slogan “Let the good times roll” (Let the good times roll) The color is red, in the 1960s and 1970s it was black or green.

Moto Guzzi
And another eagle. But what does he have with a motorcycle brand like Moto Guzzi to do?

MZ
’55, ’69, ’93, 2009: Anyone who thinks of successful football World Cups in Germany is wrong. The numbers represent the years in which the MZ logo was changed. The last change – at the beginning of 2009 – is, certainly also in light of the fact that it is with MZ continues, the least drastic. The fact that the letters M and Z now mean engine works instead of Zschopau motorcycle works – in between the brand even operated under the name of MuZ, which stood for Zschopau motorcycle and two-wheeler works – is secondary. The colors, silver arrowhead, green shield, white writing and golden border are retained.

triumph
There are many brands that listen to Triumph. Two of them built motorcycles, one still does today. Triumph in Hinckley is, as the name should otherwise, a real success story since it was revived in 1984 by John Bloor. The identical lettering in “Living Blue”, lively blue, with the unmistakable curve from R to H. Even earlier, in 1907, the brand had slightly ornate its lettering. The under swing has existed since 1934. By the way: The Nuremberg Triumph plant, the other motorcycle manufacturer of the same name, also used a swing. Up around.

Voxan
Without the addition “Motos made in France” could be the name Voxan stand for many things. In fact, it is supposed to be a reminder of the volcanic region – in French it means volcano Volcan – where the Voxan plant is located at the foot of the Puy de Dôme in the French department of the same name. A region to which the company founders have not only felt a connection since they launched the still young Voxan brand on the motorcycle market in 1996.

WMI Motorcycles
WMI Motorcycles, never heard of? But maybe the name Regal Raptor, manufacturer of small-volume motorcycles, is a term under which the brand previously operated. The background to the new name is of a legal nature. It is also intended to emphasize the proximity to the Austrian importer, Wilhelm Motor Int., WMI for short. The original logo dates from 1992. It stands for a Chinese king and shows an eagle sitting on a sign in which WMI – formerly Regal Raptor (royal bird of prey) – and Motorcycles appear. The shield should express strength, the eagle exalted, the “sees the secret in the distance that drives us motorcyclists”, so official voices.

Victory
If the brand name didn’t already exist, it would have to be invented: Victory, victory. Great. Especially in connection with this logo. An oval filled in blue in which the brand name appears as a word mark, plus Motorcycles so that you know what it’s all about. Including the name of the parent company Polaris and its founding year 1954. Victory motorcycles, “the new American motorcycle”, it’s only been around since 1997, but there will be a lot more to be heard from if you trust the rest of the logo. To see there: a V with golden wings on the side in front of a globe. understood?

Yamaha
The most puzzling logo comes from Yamaha: three crossed tuning forks that are difficult to associate with motorcycles. As is so often the case, the key here also lies in history. Yamaha, or rather Torakusu Yamaha, began building accordions in 1887 and two years later founded an organ manufacture – there we have the explanation. Yes and no. The tuning forks have a deeper meaning. They symbolize the harmony between the areas of manufacturing, marketing and technology. And they stand for Yamaha’s customers, whether as individuals or groups. Usually red, the logo in motorsport is blue.
