Market reports - First half of 2015: KTM market report - KTM used equipment

KTM has just completed the first half of 2015 with an increase of + 2.6% and has a total of 3,250 registrations. The president of the Austrian brand in France, Eric Antunes, delivers his impressions to MNC readers. First assessment…

Site: After six years of constant decline, the French motorcycle market returned to growth in 2014 with + 2.5% (read our). In the first half of 2015, the increase was limited to + 0.8% (read our). Should we be worried ?
Éric Antunes, President KTM France:
The 2015 market is slightly positive at the end of June. This is good news, but this increase is due to a month of June at + 11.6%. For KTM, we are happy because the semester ends at + 2.59%. However, the market is not easy to pinpoint. The months go by and are not alike. The achievements are random and it is very difficult to project yourself. We will have to look at the end of July to get an idea of the 2015 season.

MNC: Regarding KTM, what is your assessment of your first six months 2015 ?
E. A .:
Concerning more precisely KTM, the first quarter was more than difficult despite our novelties. We were below the market results. The second quarter allowed us to catch up and outperform the market. We have supported our distributors by providing them with the means to offer good deals to their customers and our new products have started to find their customers. Now it’s the second half of the year and our new TT products are coming. The new generation of our SX should perform well in view of the first returns and the enduros, which have been further improved, should also help us.

MNC: For you, what is the highlight of this first half of the year? ?
E. A .:
The highlight of these first six months is undoubtedly the score of the Scramblers. I think Ducati hit the nail on the head, but is this a real new segment or just a fad? I remain questionable and wait to see over time. Now they’ve done the job and helped keep the market going with BMW, just like Yamaha did last year. Be careful though, because as I said above, the market is complicated to grasp with four negative months out of six and a month of June which recovers, on its own, the consecutive declines..

MNC: How is your second semester going? ?
E. A .:
Our second semester will be all-terrain. We are introducing our new cross which will be the new benchmarks in this market thanks to their weight, engine and performance. They barely made it to the US when we immediately got a 450 SX title with Dungey and a 250 SX title with Marvin. Our distributors are already waiting for deliveries, most of the bikes arriving now being pre-sold. We have also delivered our first Enduro 2016 which are starting to hit the stores. Regarding the road, our deliveries to the network have been completed and we have all the necessary actions in place to gain market share.

MNC: Finally, the government has still not settled the question of the "retrofit" (read). How this lack of response impacts your business ?
E. A .:
Regarding this point of 100 hp, the only important thing to say is that it is high time for the government to make its decision. The heavy-duty market is starting to slow down only because our government is not taking any decisions and therefore penalizing the profession, but also customers. Why buy a currently restricted opportunity when I may be able to buy it tomorrow outside the borders in full? ?
