First half of 2015: Yamaha’s market report
Yamaha has just completed the first half of 2015 with an increase of + 3% and has a total of 16,952 registrations. The sales director of the Japanese brand in France, Gregory Lejosne, delivers his impressions to MNC readers. First assessment…
Site: After six years of constant decline, the French motorcycle market returned to growth in 2014 with + 2.5% (read our). In the first half of 2015, the increase was limited to + 0.8% (read our). Should we be worried ?
Gregory Lejosne, Yamaha Motor France Motorcycle Sales Director: No, do not worry about it because thanks to the exceptional month of June that we have just experienced, the first semester is positive. The month of June recorded good sales performances which resulted in growth of + 10%. In summary, it can be said that the first half was supported by the 125 cc segment. On the other hand, we recorded a slight delay in +125 cc of around -2% until the end of June. We note, however, that the trio Tmax, MT-07 and MT-09 (Standard and Tracer) occupy the first three sales of the more than 125 cc at the end of June. !
MNC: Regarding Yamaha, what is your assessment of your first six months of 2015? ?
G. L .: With cumulative growth of + 3% at the end of June and a PDM of 20.95%, we are satisfied with this first half. The good commercial results of the MT-09 Tracer are in line with our objectives and the evolution of our Tmax 2015, which was praised by the customers, allowed us to record + 50% in sales compared to 2014. The new R1 is the bestseller in the Supersport category. Finally, the Sport Heritage segment is also growing thanks to the strengthening of the range with the arrival of the new XJR1300. In the 125 cc segment, we recorded an improvement of + 30% in 125 cc motorcycles with the new MT-125 which seduces customers with its style and performance. In 125 cc scooters, the competitive environment has strengthened. Nonetheless, our new three-wheeler concept, the Tricity, was well received and established itself as the 6th best-selling 125 scooters. It has found its place and is recognized as a real alternative solution for customers who have not turned to the traditional two-wheel scooter. The confidence it inspires, its compactness and maneuverability have won over new customers.
MNC: For you, what is the highlight of this first half of the year? ?
G. L .: The highlights of this first semester are in our view the confirmation of the fall in the 50 cc market, a declining used vehicle market (-5% over the first semester) and, to end on a positive note, the formidable start of Yamaha’s season in MotoGP and MXGP !
MNC: How is your second semester going? ?
G. L .: The second semester for Yamaha is an important issue with the relaunch of the 125 cc segment by the introduction of the new Nmax 125 scooter at € 2,999 including ABS. This model should allow the brand to strengthen its positions. Without forgetting the first deliveries of MT-07 (2016 model) from September and the dynamics of the shows (Milan, Paris) … We are approaching the second semester with enthusiasm and determination !
MNC: Finally, the government has still not settled the question of the "retrofit" (read). How this lack of response impacts your business ?
G. L .: Obviously, our Superport customers ask questions about the terms of the "retrofit" and it is legitimate. We are expecting a return from the administration on this subject very soon..
