Mash played his poker stroke well with the 125s. Offering simple and inexpensive bikes, technologically basic and with a retro design, it was a niche to take and the Sino-French brand did not miss it. . But the motorcycle world doesn’t stop at 1 / 8th of a liter; rather he starts there. The manufacturer goes upmarket with this 250 Two-Fifty. A name with a delicately English taste, skillfully placed on a machine that mimics the identity of old machines from across the Channel.
On the design side, we are on familiar ground. The Two Fifty takes up the pencil stroke of the Seventy-Five, applying the whole recipe to please everyone. Fake Bonneville tunes, spoked rims, shiny mudguards, inverted fork, long flat saddle with flanges, sausage pot, and an engine highlighted more than on the 125. A little touch of color on the tank at the level of the knees round off the style. We saw naughtier to walk around town.
Going for a walk is indeed the envy of the Two Fifty. Its single cylinder is above all made for that. With more displacement and watts than the Seventy and variations, this 2 and a half will offer more convincing pickups and muscle on a daily basis..
Its engine is based on Suzuki technology from a long time ago. 249 cm3 to animate the GN and TU of yesteryear, with simple and proven: 2 valves, 1 carburetor, fins to cool, 1 ACT, and 23 horses reached at a speed of 7500 rpm. It’s already more comfortable as a moulbif, even if you don’t have to ask too much of it either. We will turn at 110-120 maximum, and it is more towards 90-100 km / h that the crew will benefit the most..
An old-fashioned engine is also an opportunity to discover the joys of yesteryear, like the character of a carburetor; the starter boost in the morning, to be handled with care; the reflex to take to turn the valve while driving when switching to reserve. All that shit … … treats modern motorcycles have forgotten.
On the other hand, some details may annoy on a daily basis: the tank cap without hinge, the absence of a fuel gauge. And then, the Mash deserves better than these commodos out of Bazarland.
No surprises on the chassis side, also from the Seventy-Five. The bike is built around a simple steel cradle frame with as peripherals a 38 mm inverted fork, a duo of shock absorbers (a little beefier than on the 125), a disc brake of 300 mm with 2 pistons for the front and 220 mm for 1 piston at the rear, 17-inch wheels and a weight barely greater than the 125. The Mash Two Fifty is a ballerina with its 120 kilos of metal.
It doesn’t pretend to be a sharp motorcycle and that’s precisely what interests us. This nice Mash roadster is the carefree and bucolic side of an afternoon by the lake or an improvised snack on the hill after work. Look no further, especially for such a low price.
