New KTM 450 SMR for 2021
Lightweight supermoto for the racetrack
After seven years, the KTM 450 SMR is returning to the supermoto tracks. It costs from 11,108 euros. The successful KTM 450 SX-F competition bike serves as the basis.
Tea KTM 450 SMR is purely a sports device, it is not intended for road approval – not even as a conversion or kit. The SMR claws the 63 hp stew from the parts shelf of the KTM 450 SX-F. The 449.9 cc engine with its compact cylinder head has a single overhead camshaft, electronic fuel injection and weighs just 27.3 kilograms. Under the cylinder head there is an aluminum cylinder with a 95 millimeter bore in which a piston, weighing 320 grams, thunders up and down. A high-quality connecting rod should ensure long service intervals of 100 hours. The engine is placed in the frame to improve mass centralization. The aluminum coolers were also positioned in such a way that they contribute to mass centralization.
KTM 450 SMR with traction control
The 5-speed gearbox from Pankl Racing Systems AG is equipped with a sensor that selects the right characteristic for each gear. In addition to a slipper clutch, the KTM 450 SMR for the 2021 model year is also equipped with a traction control that can be switched on and off while driving.
A 44 mm throttle body from Keihin is supposed to ensure precise throttle response, while the engine management system – also from Keihin – takes care of characteristics, launch control and traction control. The air filter box designed for the KTM 450 SMR helps the engine to deliver its power in a controllable manner and to implement gas commands directly.
Chassis and running gear
The double-loop central tube frame made of chrome-molybdenum steel, the 900 gram rear frame and the XACT chassis from WP are supposed to ensure directional stability, good handling and proper feedback. A WP XACT fork with a diameter of 48 mm and 285 millimeters of travel is located in the fork bridge, while the XACT strut from WP Suspension is fully adjustable and offers 166 millimeters of travel. The rear suspension travel of 266 millimeters is part of the Supermoto package, in which the rear deflection and the geometry of the footrests are intended to support the usability and handling of the Supermoto. The handlebars can be fixed in three different positions on the CNC-milled fork bridge with a 16 millimeter offset, and the wheelbase can be adapted to the respective race track using the cast swing arm.
Brakes and tires
The KTM 450 SMR can be braked at the front with a Brembo 4-piston radial brake caliper with a radially bolted brake cylinder and a floating 310 mm brake disc; at the rear it is a 220 mm disc. The wire spoke rims for tubeless tires are 16.5 inches at the front and 17 inches at the rear and are covered with slicks from Bridgestone.

Conclusion
