Indian model year 2020

Bigger engines and new technology

The US motorcycle manufacturer Indian has presented its new models equipped with Thunder-Stroke engines for the 2020 model year. In addition to the thicker engine, there is new technology and more aggressive styling.

For the first time in the company’s history it offers I.ndian the Thunder Stroke Motor in a 1.901 cm³ variant (116 cubic-inch). The new air-cooled V-twin engine has a new high-flow cylinder head and delivers 168 Nm of torque. An achievement has not yet been named. The smaller Thunder Stroke variant has so far produced 87 hp and 150 Nm. The Thunder Stroke 116 is now being used as standard equipment across most of the Indian motorcycle lineup, including Springfield Dark Horse, Chieftain, Chieftain Dark Horse, Chieftain Limited, Chieftain Elite , Roadmaster and Roadmaster Dark Horse.

The Chief Dark Horse, Chief Vintage, Chieftain Classic and Springfield models will continue to be equipped with the Thunder Stroke 111 engine.

Indian has redesigned the Ride Command System. What remains is the 7-inch screen and the usability of the touchscreen even with gloves. The quad-core processor, which is supposed to provide a faster infotainment experience, is new. New features include traffic and weather overlays so drivers can plan their trip to avoid traffic and bad weather conditions. In addition, Ride Command offers Google-like, predictive destination search functions and customizable driving screens.

The new styling is rounded off by a two-tone “Thunder Black Vivid Crystal over Wildfire Candy” paintwork with matching engine highlights and badging, Precision Machined Elite wheels, Pinnacle mirrors, Select Rider running boards and a flare windshield.

In addition, the complete 2020 Thunder Stroke lineup offers additional updates. The Chief Dark Horse and the Chief Vintage will share the same chassis as the Springfield and Springfield Dark Horse. Springfield and Chief Dark Horse will be fitted with a 17-inch front wheel as standard from 2020 for greater stability. The Roadmaster will lose weight in 2020 and has a redesigned rear pannier rack.
