Everything you need to know about the 18 circuits of the 2013 Moto GP world championship: dates of the races, characteristics of the tracks, 2012 results, current records, official websites…

Qatar Grand Prix – Losail Circuit (5,380m) – April 5-7, 2013

Flat and set in the middle of the desert, the Qatar circuit is one of the fastest (1,068 m straight line) and has been contested at night since 2008. Attracting few spectators, it offers a striking spectacle thanks to its expensive lighting and its long curves. fast.

If Stoner set the lap record last year (1’55.541), it was Lorenzo who won there after winning his first pole of the year in 1’51.634. The Mallorcan also holds the absolute track record since 2008 (1’53.927).

Grand Prix des Ameriques – Circuit of the Americas in Texas (5513 m) – April 19 to 21, 2013

Designed by Hermann Tilke and completed in 2012, the Circuit of the Americas (COT) is entering the MotoGP World Championship for the first time. Honda (HRC and LCR) and Yamaha had the chance to carry out private tests there in March and came back delighted.

With a drop of 41 meters, the Texan route requires a big heart to investigate its nine curves to the right and eleven to the left. The tight hairpin that follows the 1,200-meter pit straight line should be the scene of overtaking, especially in the first lap.

Spanish Grand Prix – Jerez de la Frontera Circuit (4,423 m) – May 3 to 5, 2013

Complete and fast despite a short straight line of 600 m, the Jerez circuit requires a precise and stable front end. Wide, the Andalusian track is conducive to overtaking especially as the pilots know every nook and cranny to train there regularly..

In 2012, Stoner tamed Lorenzo and Pedrosa at home, while Crutchlow stood out with the fastest lap in the race (1’40.019). Lorenzo won pole in 1’39.532 and holds the record since 2008 in 1’38.139.

French Grand Prix – Bugatti Circuit (4,180 m) – May 17-19, 2013

Essentially made up of slow turns, the Bugatti-Le Mans circuit is not unanimous among the drivers. But it is the favorite meeting place for tricolor "MotoGPistes" who delight in the many activities offered by the promoter..

Beaten in qualifying by Pedrosa (1’33.638), Lorenzo made a real demonstration there in 2012 by winning in the rain with ten seconds ahead of Rossi. Strangely, the Italian has indeed signed two of his three podiums at Ducati in the Sarthe…

Dani Pedrosa is the absolute record holder of the track in 1’32.647 since 2008.

Italian Grand Prix – Mugello Circuit (5,245 m) – from May 31 to June 2, 2013

If there is one circuit that has all the votes, it’s Mugello! Resurfaced in 2011, its asphalt is a real billiards table while its superb sequences coiled in the Tuscan valley make the senses vibrate. Its long straight line of 1141 m is also a justice of the peace for engine manufacturers.

Rossi remained unbeaten there from 2002 to 2008 (!) Before Stoner (2009), Pedrosa (2010) and Lorenzo (2011 and 2012) won. The Majorcan signed the double in front of a Pedrosa who was nevertheless at ease: the n ° 26 slammed the pole in 1’47.284 (track record) and the fastest lap in the race in 1’47.705.

Grand Prix de Catalunya – Circuit de Catalunya (4,727m) – June 14-16, 2013

With its straight line of 1,047 m, the Catalan route requires power from the engines, then stability from the front axles when braking on the first straight. Located a stone’s throw from Barcelona, its stands are always packed: for Iberian pilots, shining there is a matter of pride..

Beaten by Stoner in qualifying (1’41.295) in 2012, Lorenzo was able to find the necessary resources to win after having set the fastest lap in the race (1’42.642). Since 2008, the Australian retiree has kept the absolute track record in 1’41.186.

Dutch Grand Prix – Van Drenthe Circuit (4,555 m) – from June 27 to 29, 2013 (race run on Saturday)

Registered in the championship since its launch in 1949, the Assen circuit has lost none of its aura despite significant "nibbles" due to the real estate expansion. Unique, the "cathedral" has old-style rows, a short straight line (560 m) and a final chicane where everything can be played out..

After setting the new track record in qualifying (1’33.713), Stoner won there last year ahead of his teammate Pedrosa – author of the fastest lap in the race in 1’34.548 – and the Yamaha satellite of Dovizioso.

German Grand Prix – Sachsenring Circuit (3,675m) – July 12-14, 2013

A time threatened to leave the program despite an excellent attendance, the Sachsenring undermines the riders (and the tires!) MotoGP because of its developed developed.

Nicknamed the "tourniquet", it has a short straight line of 780 m: unique characteristics that allowed Olivier Jacque to tackle the feat in 2002 with a 500cc against the first MotoGP.

After conceding pole to Stoner in the wet (1’31.796), Pedrosa won there for the second time in a row in 2012. The Catalan is also the author of the lap record in the race (1’21.846 in 2011), while Stoner has held the absolute track record since 2008 (1’21.067).

US Grand Prix – Laguna Seca Circuit (3,610m) – July 19-21, 2013

Although it has only hosted MotoGP – and only MotoGP – since 2005, the Californian track can be proud of having been the scene of the two most beautiful overtaking of the modern era of GP: that of Rossi on Stoner in the Cork Screw in 2008, then the hallucinatory exterior of the same Stoner on Lorenzo in 2011 in the "not quite straight" straight line of 966 m.

Winner in 2011 and 2012 with Honda, the Australian also set the race lap record there in 1’55.153 in 2008 with Ducati. Lorenzo is nevertheless the owner of the absolute record since 2008 in 1’53.927.

Indianapolis Grand Prix – Indianapolis Circuit (4,216m) – August 16-18, 2013

Capable of attracting 250,000 spectators during the NASCAR races, the Indy circuit has not caused the same stir since its return to the MotoGP calendar in 2008 … It is even one of the rare events where attendance is decreasing, despite the presence of three Americans on the grid (Edwards, Hayden and Spies) !

The Bryckyard is, however, a Mecca for motorsports which hosted its first motorcycle race in August 1909! Pedrosa signed a victory full of authority in 2012 (11 sec ahead of Lorenzo) after smashing the track record in qualifying (1’38.813), then the race lap record in 1’39.088.

Czech Republic Grand Prix – Brno Circuit (5,403m) – August 23-25, 2013

Praised by pilots, the Brno circuit is wide and selective. Demanding, it has a rather short straight line (636 m) but its long rows make it a fast track where fluidity matters a lot..

Attracting fans from all over Europe, the Czech track was the scene of a great fight between Pedrosa and Lorenzo last year. Yet the author of the new circuit record in qualifying (1’55.799), then the lap record in the race (1’56.274), the Mallorcan lost for only 0.178 sec. !

British Grand Prix – Silverstone Circuit (5,902m) – from August 30 to September 1, 2013

Back in the Grand Prix calendar since 2010 after a 25-year absence, the Silverstone circuit is located 130 km north-west of London. It offers several quick sequences, a straight line of 800 m … and typical British weather !

Bautista surprised in 2012 by taking pole (2’03.303) before passing close to the podium on which Lorenzo, Stoner and Pedrosa are mounted. The Australian has held the absolute record since 2011 (2’02.020), Lorenzo the one for the fastest lap in the race (2’02.888 in 2012).

San Marino Grand Prix – Misano Circuit (4,226m) – September 13-15, 2013

Located a slick turn from Rossi and Dovizioso, the Adriatic circuit is made up of a short straight line of 565 m and many hairpins. Its single-path layout makes overtaking difficult, which the pilots have regretted since its return to the program in 2007.

In 2012, Pedrosa took pole there in 1’33.857, before Lorenzo won by setting the fastest lap in the race (1’34.398). Behind him was Rossi, author of his best race at Ducati ahead of his family! Stoner has the absolute circuit record in 1’33.138 since 2011.

Grand Prix d’Aragon – Circuit Motorland Aragon (5078 m) – from September 27 to 29, 2013

Completed in 2009, Motorland Aragon is a huge complex dedicated to motorsports. Its speed track has many advantages: wide (15 m), uneven and fast, it also has technical rows and a long straight line (968 m).

Beaten by Lorenzo in qualifying in 2012 (1’49.404), Pedrosa reversed the situation in the race by relying on his higher lap speed. Injured to his ankle, Stoner was not at the start but no one broke his absolute circuit record (1’48.451), nor his race lap record (1’49.046) dating from 2011.

Malaysian Grand Prix – Sepang Circuit (5,548m) – October 11-13, 2013

Sepang and its two long straights (one of which is 920m) will launch the 2013 overseas tour. Technical, this track is one of the drivers’ favorites despite the heat and humidity of the air from which they suffer during the race..

Seat of two off-season testing sessions, the Malaysian track is unfortunately in mourning since the tragic accident which cost the life of Marco Simoncelli here are already two seasons (read in particular and)…

In 2012, Lorenzo seemed set to break everything after setting the absolute record in qualifying (2’00.334). But it was finally Pedrosa who won the bet with 3.774 sec ahead of n ° 99 !

Australian Grand Prix – Phillip Island (4,448m) – October 18-20, 2013

Along with Mugello, Phillip Island is one of the best circuits in the world. Its alternation of fast curves and delicate sequences with a view of the sea are unanimous, while its long parabolic final can hold many surprises on arrival! Too bad the weather is so cool there because of its questionable positioning in the calendar…

Unbeaten from 2007 to 2012 (!), Author of the pole (1’29.623) and the fastest lap in the race (1’30.191), Stoner now has a corner to his name. The Australian also has the best absolute time there since 2008 (1’28.665).

Japanese Grand Prix – Motegi Circuit (4,801m) – October 25-27, 2013

Property of Honda, the "Twin Ring" of Motegi brings together a speed ring and a circuit typed "acceleration / braking". Its short straight line (762 m) does not promote pure power, but rather traction and the right balance of the chassis.

In great form at the end of last season, Pedrosa won for the second time in a row on the Japanese track, setting the lap record in the process (1’45.589). Second, Lorenzo seemed to have the advantage of speed, as demonstrated by his record clock achieved in qualifying (1’44.969).

Valencia Grand Prix – Ricardo Tormo Circuit (4,005 m) – November 8-10, 2013

Short (876 m straight line) and collected, Valence is particularly demanding for MotoGP whose terrifying power (up to 275 hp for the Honda!) Does not adapt well to its tight curves..

Circuit full of surprises, the Ricardo Tormo saw the victory on the same day a Superbike rider invited by Ducati in 2006 (the exceptional Troy Bayliss) and Rossi losing the world title for the first time since 2001! In 2012, it was the Yamaha test rider Katsuyuki Nakasuga who created the event by finishing second behind the poleman, Dani Pedrosa (absolute circuit record in 1’30.844) !
