Triumph Thruxton RS (2020)

New cafe racer with power plus

EICMA 2019

Based on the current Thruxton R (2019) model, the sportier RS is now coming to EICMA 2019. With more power, less weight and improved driving characteristics, it should go up a level.

KA classic look, modern technology – cafe racers are right on trend in the motorcycle scene. As a veteran of this bike division, Triumph has always had a lot to do with the scene and will be adding one more in 2020 with the Thruxton RS. It should outperform the Thruxton R in a sportier way and with improved performance.

105 hp in the Bonneville twin

The revised 1,200 cubic engine should bring eight horsepower more than the previous model over the entire speed range and thus comes to 105 hp. Upgrades to the high-power version of the Bonneville Twin include a revision of the channels and cam profiles, a secondary air system and pistons with higher compression. In addition, Triumph is now installing some lighter engine components: a crankshaft with less flywheel mass, a new alternator, magnesium camshaft cover and thinner engine cover.

The updates also come with a higher torque, with the Thruxton RS producing 112 Nm at 4,850 revolutions per minute. The manufacturer also promises a noticeably more spontaneous response due to a 20 percent lower moment of inertia and an engine speed range expanded by 500 rpm. For the Euro 5 homologation, the twin up swept silencers get a new catalytic converter.

Less weight, more performance

The Thruxton RS has lost six kilos compared to its predecessor model – mainly thanks to the above-mentioned engine components and a lighter battery. The new double disc brake system with four-piston M50 radial monoblock brake calipers comes from Brembo, the Racetec RR super sports tires from Metzeler. Showa supplies the fully adjustable big piston upside-down fork, while Ohlins supplies the fully adjustable suspension struts with reservoir.

Improved driving modes and assistance systems

Thanks to the ride-by-wire system, the three driving modes, sport, road and rain, now also influence the throttle valve mappings, as well as the ABS system and the settings for the traction control that can be switched off. A servo coupling should ensure low manual forces and better controllability. The two semi-analog, classic round instruments can be operated using the handlebars.

The new Thruxton RS is available in the colors "Jet Black" and "Matt Storm Gray / Matt Silver Ice". Triumph also offers 80 different accessories.
