WSSP Aragon: first and magnificent victory for Lucas Mahias !

Passed very close to victory in Australia and betrayed by his official Yamaha in Thailand, Lucas Mahias has just won his first World Supersport race in Aragon! The French n ° 144 took the opportunity to take control of the championship…

Departure : Kenan Sofuoglu took off most quickly from his second place on the grid while Patrick Jacobsen remained stuck. Mahias started very well from his fourth place and wedged himself in the wheel of Sheridan Morais who hoisted his R6 (old version) to the front of the race! Kyle Smith is third ahead of Sofuoglu and Jacobsen. Robin Mulhauser falls in the middle of the first lap, ahead of Gamarino, Tuuli, Cluzel, Caricasulo, and Rolfo.

A nice battle quickly begins between Smith and Mahias. The English dominated and set off to chase Morais who was starting to escape in the lead … Mahias did not follow the Honda n ° 111 but was not caught by the peloton led by Sofuoglu, ahead of Jacobsen, Tuuli and Gamarino.

Starting from 14th place, Cluzel then took eighth place, a short distance from the n ° 11 Honda of Gamarino. The best time in the race during the 2nd loop is signed Mahias: the Frenchman has just seen Smith take the reins of the race and must not let him slip away.

Just behind, Sofuoglu had to fight hard against Jacobsen. The Turk wins over the American … but the Finn Tuuli remains in the rear wheel of the Kawa n ° 1! The Yamaha n ° 66 beats the record of the n ° 144 in the 3rd lap. Nikki even overtakes Kenan, soon imitated by PJ and his MV Agusta.

Up front, Morais gives Smith a hard time. The fight between the two leading men benefits their pursuers: at the start of the fifth lap, the first seven are within a few lengths of each other. Jules turns in the same lap times as them and is always a little behind.

Tuuli falls at the exit of the Aragonese "corckscrew"! Jacobsen inherited his fourth place and only momentarily lost contact with the top three. Morais remains firmly in the lead of the race ahead of our Lucas Mahias (inter) national !

Two laps later, it was Kyle Smith’s turn to make a mistake on the braking of the chicane leading to the long straight of the circuit. The pilot runs to raise his CBR600RR and regains the track in 19th position, not far behind a group fighting for the Top 10…

At the exit of the first corner of the 7th lap, Caricasulo opens the throttle a little too wide and goes highside. Stuck in his wheel, Sofuoglu could not avoid the official Yamaha n ° 64 and crash. The two men get up without – too much ?! – sores. Jacobsen takes the opportunity to move up to third position…

Jules Cluzel is now fourth, just a second behind his old MV Agusta. Honda rider n ° 16 is followed by Honda n ° 11 of Gamarino and Kawasaki n ° 65 of Canducci. Rolfo and his MV Agusta n ° 44 are at several lengths…

The drivers go on six smooth laps. Only the Italians Canducci, Rolfo and Gamarino fight and exchange their places: fifth place is at stake … Fourth perhaps too, because our dear Jules Cluzel remains within their reach. !

Over the laps, the leading trio built a comfortable lead of more than three seconds. Mahias seems faster in the winding but loses contact in the stretches … Lucas triggers an attack at the start of the last lap but Sheridan responds tactfully: the final is officially launched !

The n ° 144 launches again at the entrance of the "Corckscrew", slightly crush the n ° 32 at the change of angle and plunges in the straight line of return just in front of Morais … and Jacobsen! The two Yamaha are literally found fairing against fairing but Sheridan imposes his "private" R6, but certainly no horses. !

Mahias enters the last double left in second position but shoots as short as possible while Morais borrows the entire width of the track … The "Frenchie" again closes the track to the "Aussie" on the climb to the d line finish and wins with a tiny lead: 14 thousandths of a second !

The 2014 French Supersport champion takes his first WSSP victory and takes control of the championship! Winner in Australia, 11th in Thailand and 6th in Aragon, Roberto Rolfo occupies second place in the provisional ahead of Morais, Ryde and Tuuli.

Fourth in this third race of the year, Jules Cluzel scores his first points of the 2017 season! Our triple "vice-champion" of the Supersport world is in thirteenth place in the provisional classification. The five-time champion Kenan Sofuoglu still does not appear in the list, for lack of points.
