New Honda PCX 125 scooter: additional assets for 2021
Honda is making many changes to its PCX 125, an interesting low-cost scooter very popular in town (140,000 sales in Europe). More efficient engine and Euro5, larger trunk, keyless start, traction control and increased comfort are on the program. Presentation.
Launched in 2010 then improved in 2012 and 2016 (Euro4), the saw its first overhaul in 2018 mainly around its cycle part. This excellent "jumper-cork" takes advantage of Euro5 to refine its copy in order to confirm its excellent commercial performance … at the origin, alas, of its new status as the most stolen two-wheeler in France !

At the mechanical level, the PCX retains a 4-stroke 125 cc single-cylinder, but its dimensions evolve towards a more "long stroke" format: 53.5 x 55.5 mm against 52.4 x 57.9 mm in 2019. This increased bore offers the advantage of placing two additional valves, or 4 in all (hot, math!).
Direct benefit: the power climbs to 12.5 hp (+ 0.3 hp, all the same!) But the torque remains at 11.8 Nm. Not very impressive, but still positive insofar as the Euro5 standards inevitably burden the performance of the brave little mono – moreover still as sober: "2.1 l / 100 km" according to Honda, which announces "385 km" of autonomy with the full 8.1 liters !
Connected to a classic variator-belt assembly, this unit also remains faithful to its relevant technological "Idling Stop" which automatically cuts the engine after three seconds at idle (at a red light, for example). This device released in 2010 is underused according to MNC, who would like to see it generalized on all two-wheelers with an urban vocation..
In addition to the savings in fuel and polluting emissions, this "Stop and Start" has in fact the immense benefit of reducing noise. Imagine intersections with rows of quiet vehicles: pleasant and safer for pedestrians, without having to resort to electric propulsion so fashionable !
Ergonomics and suspension revised
This new PCX 125 also introduces the "Smart-Key" keyless start which also activates the locking-unlocking of the saddle and the optional 35 l top-case if necessary. It also receives anti-skating, not really essential given the performance but still reassuring for the motorists who drive it (with 7-hour training).
Its new dashboard remains faithful to the LCD format, unlike the new Forza 750 and X-ADV and their 5-inch color "panel". The small Honda scooter also emphasizes its entirely LED lighting which modernizes its lines, which evolve in small touches. Speaking of "small": its smoky jump would be more protective despite its still fairly short format: to be checked during a test.
Its floor saves more space on the front and sides, while its seat height remains at 764 mm despite the increased travel of the rear suspension, itself facilitated by the change from 14 to 13 inches of the rear rim. Note that the tires widen again, by ten millimeters, to 110 mm and 130 mm. Good for stability, but potentially penalizing for handling.
This operation increases the capacity of the trunk under the saddle by "2.4 liters", which now easily accommodates a full face helmet and other business thanks to its 30.4 liters of capacity. The weight remains contained at 130 kg, helped in a very small proportion by the "310 gr" gained on the grab handle of the passenger !
Honda France plans to arrive on the market for "February 2021", in gray, white, red or black at a price of 3299 euros (+ 100 euros Vs 2019).
