Lucas Mahias recovers WorldSSP victory in Portugal !
Rebound in World Supersport: while Lucas Mahias had been disqualified in Portimao, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) has just found him right! Explanations.
Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more interested in than others – remember this when Lucas Mahias,, was disqualified for not having reached the finish line in the …
The French pilot, "very sad" after this mishap, had seized the Court of Arbitration for Sport (TAS) to appeal this decision of the International Motorcycling Federation (FIM).
He requested an accelerated procedure before the supreme body of international sport and the hearing took place in Lugano (Switzerland) on Monday, October 22, 2018 before the sole arbitrator Michele Bernasconi and in front of the deputy general manager and legal director of the FIM, Richard Perret. The CAS issued its decision on Wednesday which "partially confirms the appeal of the French driver against the decision taken by the FIM stewards".
Consequence: the CAS has restored Lucas in its ranking following the Portuguese event of the 2018 FIM Supersport World Championship and modifies the results accordingly. "The CAS partially modified the stewards’ decision by fining Mr. Mahias", indicates the FIM which "takes note of the decision and is satisfied that the problem has been resolved without disrupting the championship final" to Doha (Qatar) this weekend.
With these 25 points recovered, the Yamaha rider climbs back to third place in the championship while the leader, Sandro Cortese, is now only 5 points ahead of Jules Cluzel … In short: Cluzel can become world champion WorldSSP 2018 winning on Saturday as he would be tied on points with Cortese but he has had more wins this year !
"It’s like I won twice!"
"I am happy to have been re-established as the winner in Portimão following my appeal, because I had no doubts that I had won this race", rejoices Lucas: "it is as if I had won twice! It was good to get TAS to make their decision before this weekend, so that the final championship standings would be decided here on Sunday and not weeks after ".
Good news never comes alone, Lucas has just set the best time in free practice, then pole position in Qatar for the, to be followed on MNC at the same time as the !
