Beaujolais rally: Schiltz leads the French championship !
In the absence of Christophe Velardi on this fourth round of the 2017 championship, the way is clear for CTM 83 driver Bruno Schiltz, who leads his KTM 1290 Superduke to victory in the rally and takes the lead of the provisional championship ! Story.
Beaujolais Rally page 3: night stage
The organization of a road rally, and even more of a French championship event, is a real headache … The oldest motorcycle discipline goes through the ages trying to take as few rides as possible, but this is not an easy task given the evolution of road regulations and especially prefectural.
The Club Motocycliste du Beaujolais (CMB) welcomed more than 170 competitors this year, which is certainly an excellent thing, but the hours are not extendable and the slightest delay generates repercussions that are difficult to manage. In short, the night stage planned on a large loop plus a small one will only take place on a single large loop, i.e. with only two stages.
The scheduled departure at 8:45 p.m. is postponed to 10 p.m., so that all the pilots can pass there in the same light conditions: at night! The air time to stabilize in the dry tonight, which is a very good thing.
On the only passage through the Saint-Bonnet night special (nightcap, yes, like every year!), We find our leading trio of the rally: Bruno Schiltz (3’27.25), Laurent Filleton (3 ’29, 02) and Julien Toniutti (3 29.46).
Kevin Cheylan is still there, in fourth position, almost 8 seconds from the fastest time (3 35.11), but above all more than 5 seconds from the third place occupied by Julien Toniutti. Kevin, third in the daytime stage almost 3 seconds ahead of Julien, could have claimed the final podium of the rally, but now 2 seconds behind it will get complicated…
Too bad for the Chanal / Chanal crew at the controls of their original 1340 SGR Panda sidecar: a little too confident following their good lap times on the previous stages, they arrive a little too quickly on the left of a row … and it does not pass! They got off the road and retired, luckily without a scratch for the crew! The first place in the sidecars will therefore be occupied by the crew which was then in second position, namely Alain Amblard and Alexandra Garcia at the controls of their Suzuki 1340 Hayabusa team..
Last passage at Pierres Plates: Bruno Schiltz confirms and slams the best time (1’01.66) ahead of Laurent Filleton at less than a second (1’02.52). Kevin Cheylan regained the upper hand in 1’02.99, but Julien Toniutti cemented his third step of the final podium by securing a fourth time just six tenths behind Kevin (1’03.61).
