World Endurance Championship: GMT94 wins Slovakia 8H 2017
By winning the first edition of the 8 Hours of the Slovakia Ring this weekend, the Yamaha GMT94 team is relaunching the championship with now only one point behind the SERT…
Third victory in a row for GMT94: after winning les and les, David Checa, Niccolò Canepa and Mike Di Meglio have just won at the 8 hours of the Slovakia Ring, .
By finishing in front of the Suzuki n ° 1 of SERT (Vincent Philippe, Etienne Masson and Alex Cudlin) and the Honda Racing n ° 111 (Julien da Costa, Sebastien Gimbert and Freddy Foray), Christophe Guyot’s men come back to one point in the head of the world championship (131 Vs 132), which will be played during the final round at the 8 hours of Suzuka !
"We can be really happy to be back in the race for the world title," said the team manager after a race "extremely difficult due to the scorching temperatures".
"What is interesting is that we are only one point away from the championship lead and the team which will be ahead of the other at Suzuka will be world champion", continues Christophe: "it is with a lot of motivation , energy and determination as we prepare for the Suzuka 8 Hours race. The exercise was complicated because we knew we were in the title race after the Oschersleben 8 Hours. But it is difficult for competitors not to contemplate the victory, but at the same time thinking that we could not throw everything in the battle either. You had to be smart and try to control the championship-leading bike that was behind us rather than the YART. It was also very important to never give up the race for the victory and that is what we did. The fight with the YART again offered some overtaking on the track which was still just as delicate. We had to be very fast all the time. by not making mistakes so as not to jeopardize our chances for the world title ".

Everything remains to be done at the Suzuka 8H on July 30 for the EWC category, while in Superstock the world cup goes to Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences (Florian Alt and Bastien Mackels), despite the victory of the BMW of Volpker NRT48 Schubert Motors (Stefan Kerschbaumer, Jan Buhn and Julian Puffe).
Favorite after testing, the Moto Ain CRT team saw its hopes soar with a fall after three hours of racing, while second place for Yamaha Viltaïs Experiences was enough for it to win the World Cup ahead of Moto Ain CRT and No Limit Motor Team (Niccolò Rosso, Kevin Manfredi and Andrea Boscoscuro).
See you for the last event on July 30 in Japan with the Suzuka 8H !
