2013 Pan-European Vs FJR 1300 Duel: GT on the road !
With these two motorcycles, it is not only two generations of GTs that clash, but downright two driving philosophies. Which one of the FJR sportswoman or the valiant Pan-European will win over the kilometers? ? Answers in our essay.
An invitation to travel
Versatile, the Honda Pan European and the Yamaha FJR1300 must also be able to fulfill a use if not professional, at least serious. In this regard, during the long stages, we regret the absence of a sixth gear on the two bikes. Without necessarily talking about an overdrive, this would consume less and drive more serenely.
On long motorway stages, the 2013 FJR seems to be resting on a rail. With the cruise control and the good protection of the bubble, one is quickly tempted to daydream at extremely prohibited cruising speeds….
Despite its comfort and protection, the Pan-European hardly encourages speeding. After 150 km / h, its front end suffers, under certain conditions, from swaying which is not really dangerous … but not pleasant either. !
This phenomenon is all the more curious as it occurs randomly: from one pilot to another (his weight, his grip in the wind, his way of holding the handlebars …), at different speeds, with the windshield fully up or not … A real mystery !
If certain motorcycles invite you – or oblige you! – to take regular breaks because of their reduced autonomy or their spartan comfort, this is not the case with our two GTs. With respectively 29 and 25 liter tanks, the Pan and the FJR happily exceed 300 km before reserve. The Honda V4 is a little more greedy with an average consumption of 6.8 l / 100 km against 6.2 for the Yamaha.
In good GT, the two motorcycles welcome a passenger with the honors due to his rank. If its saddle was not as slippery, the Pan would be much more comfortable for the passenger than the FJR thanks to the smoothness of its engine and transmission, its suspensions and its soft saddle..
Verdict: conflict of generations
Finally, the Yamaha 1300 FJR and the Honda 1300 Pan-European do not really enter into direct competition, as they offer different services. Depending on the bikers and their expectations, they can be liked or rejected very quickly….
The 2013 FJR remains above all … an FJR. That is to say a rigorous, firm, efficient, well-equipped, but somewhat demanding motorcycle. Less sporty and aging, the Pan-European appears to be a more comfortable alternative, but with less equipment..
As if to forgive its few shortcomings, the Honda is however displayed at a reasonable price (for a GT!) Of 15,990 euros. If you want all modern comfort and more sportiness, the Yamaha FJR 1300 is there, but it charges: 17,499 euros …
