Andrea Dovizioso breaks collarbone during motocross race…
Andrea Doviziosio broke his left collarbone during the opening round of an Italian regional motocross championship at the Monte Coralli circuit in Faneza. The official Ducati rider immediately underwent surgery in Modena, hoping to avoid complications for the start of the MotoGP season… Explanations.
Ducati must bite its … fingers! Under pressure from its star rider, the Italian manufacturer had agreed to let Andrea Dovizioso participate in a "real" motocross race so that he could return to competition conditions after the three months of forced rest imposed by the Covid-19.
- MotoGP :
This authorization was exceptional, insofar as the manufacturers of MotoGP systematically refuse any external engagement deemed dangerous, and particularly off-road motorcycle competitions which many MotoGP riders are fond of. Remember that Valentino Rossi, in particular, was training on an enduro special…
Alas for the Reds, the dreaded scenario materialized yesterday: "Dovi", heavily fallen the circuit of Monte Coralli de Faneza, fractured his left shoulder … Immediately transported to the hospital of Forli, the n ° 4 then joined the clinic in Modena to undergo surgery there last night.
Operation "Dovi ready for the first MotoGP race" !
This operation was not strictly necessary from a medical point of view, but was nevertheless carried out to accelerate the recovery. Objective: to be certain that Dovizioso is in full possession of his means to attack the MotoGP season (Spain) – four months behind the initial schedule.
Irony of fate: Ducati had just given in to Dovizioso’s request for this MX round with the idea of placing his driver in favorable conditions to negotiate the renewal of his contract, until now at a standstill despite a shared desire to continue their collaboration in 2021.
Problem: the three-time "vice-champion" of the MotoGP world would demand a significant increase in his salary, justified by his status as a rare rider to be able to compete with Marquez. But Ducati would not be willing to grant him this increase: the Reds are waiting for the title from "DesmoDovi", and no longer "only" a few victories. This somewhat tense situation is also peppered with rumors announcing the outright withdrawal of Dovisiozo at the end of his contract at the end of 2020….
Zarco on the lookout for a possible retirement from Dovizioso. Pol Espargaro, too ?!
All these internal movements are necessarily closely scrutinized by the contenders for the factory Ducati, including a certain Johann Zarco who believes he has a "good chance" of being promoted if "Dovi decides to quit". Recall that the French makes his debut at Ducati-Avintia with the ambition to access the official Desmosedici in 2021 !
But the name of Pol Espargaro, from KTM, is also circulating to replace Dovizioso at Ducati: surreal? Not that much: at this stage, no one has officially confirmed his transfer to Honda-Repsol…
