Race - Report and results of the 2019 MotoGP Qatar Grand Prix (Dovizioso winner) -

We take the same ones and start over: Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Marquez gave us the same thrilling final as the previous year at the QP Qatar 2019, with the same finish wheel to wheel (0.023 sec!). The Ducati rider, always so smart, wins his first duel against his rival Honda! Summary and rankings.

Andrea Dovizioso starts the 2019 MotoGP season in Qatar as he finished the previous one in Valencia (Spain): with a victory. The official Ducati rider dominated most of the opening race at Losail, but faced strong opposition until the finish.

Despite the power of the V4 of his motorcycle – about 5 km / h faster than that of the Honda -, "Dovi" never managed to escape during this race disputed at night … The Italian notably crossed swords, temporarily moved from tenth to first on his Suzuki.

But the in-line 4-cylinder of its GSX-RR lacked "watts" to stand up to the powerful Desmosedici: Dovizioso is always in front thanks to its 10 km / h advantage over the Japanese motorcycle! Rins finally finished in 4th place, with the certainty of quickly being able to seek victory again.

The potential of the Suzuki – equipped with a new and attractive twin tailpipes – seems very high in view of its performance, and that of its new teammate. Joan Mir remained at the top of the hierarchy until the last third of the race, before falling back to 8th place. He is the first beginner.

The victory was ultimately played between the two strong men of last season: Andrea Dovizioso and Marc Marquez, who reproduced identically the scenario of the GP of Qatar 2018! Wheel in wheel in the last lap, the n ° 4 and the n ° 93 brawled with intensity until in the last turn … where "Dovi" crossed again from the inside for !

"As usual", one would be tempted to write so much this maneuver between the two cracks has become common in the last curve: Marquez plunges in like hell, widens slightly for lack of being able to slow down well, and beaten by Doviziosio who knowingly held his motorbike when entering a turn. Unstoppable !

What does it matter for the defending champion, delighted to be at such a party after a complicated winter because of his shoulder surgery. Obviously, his arm holds the shock perfectly, just like his motorcycle: the new RC213V "vintage" seems to have progressed in terms of acceleration against the Ducati reference..

"Very happy with this result because Qatar is not a circuit on which we are strong," confirms Marquez. "Also, I was worried about the medium front tire. But in the end, it went well and we got 20 precious points.".

Contrasting lead for Yamaha

Valentino Rossi for his part finished in 5th place, just 0.600 sec behind the winner. The "Doctor" has never been able to join in the fight for victory, but his performance remains impressive: remember that he started from an anonymous 14th place !

The n ° 46, author of a solid comeback of which he has the secret, can also be satisfied to be the first Yamaha rider in Qatar and closes a Top 5 with four manufacturers: Ducati, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha. Bodes well for the rest of the season !

His team-mate Maverick Viñales, qualified on pole, finally failed in 7th place behind an extremely disappointed Danilo Petrucci. Shot in his box, "Petrux" was almost distraught: despite reassuring statements from Ducati, the Italian is under pressure to keep his place in the factory team !

The third Yamaha, that of Morbidelli, appears in 11th position behind the surprising Aprilia of Aleix Espargaro and in front of the KTM of his brother Pol. The latter is the first KTM rider to arrive, 12.774 sec behind the leader. Pol Espargaro beats Jorge Lorenzo, anonymous 13th…

Lorenzo misses his first meeting on the Honda

The Mallorcan was transparent during this opening race, visibly hampered by pain following these falls at high speed during the tests. Lorenzo first suffered a big high side in FP3 and then a loss of the front in QP1. Not really the best way to gain confidence with your new bike….

Johann Zarco meanwhile takes the point of 15th place for his first race at KTM and precedes his compatriot, Fabio Quartararo. The young Nice, qualified 5th, unfortunately had to start from the pit lane after having! Infuriating !

Despite a superb comeback, the lap record in the race in his third lap, "El Diablo" finished in 16th place. Far from his initial objectives: after his superb qualifying, Fabio aspired to take the lead in the leading group and stay there.
