All Tests - 2013 MV Agusta F4 Test: the prestige of the senses - Bella meccanica!

With its F4, MV Agusta has so far offered one of the most beautiful sports motorcycles on the market. In 2013, the Italian manufacturer tries to combine beauty and efficiency: the Varese Super (be) bike gains in both performance and sophistication…. Test.

Bella meccanica !

Started in September 1997 with a 750 cc engine, the MV Agusta F4 saga has gone through almost a decade and a half, contenting itself with increasing in displacement and multiplying the variations (Oro, Senna, CC, 312RR, etc.) before undergoing his first real change in 2009 (read).

Thanks to a subtle balance between modernism and tradition, the Italian manufacturer then succeeds in the feat of retaining all the power of Massimo Tamburini’s original pencil stroke, like the four superb tailpipes with now square shapes. ""Phew", sighed the worshipers of the beautiful Italian !

Three years later, MV Agusta surprises by unveiling at the Milan Motorcycle Show what is advertised as a "new F4", a novelty available in three distinct versions: the" standard "F4, the" mid "range F4R and the (very!) top of the range F4RR (read our).

In appearance, the Hypersport has hardly changed and only an expert eye will note that the tailpipes under the seat have been resized and the forced air intakes are subtly redesigned, as are the pretty taillights. Let’s be frank: no one will regret that its plastic has not been more retouched, as the F4 is part of the pantheon of motorcycle beauties !

Because it is appropriate to give back to Caesar what belongs to the Italians: in terms of design, the transalpine manufacturers have no lessons to take from anyone, and the F4 is no exception! This MV Agusta even characterizes on its own all the Italian creative genius, an inspired mix of refinement and sportiness that Ducati has also been able to bring up to date with the .

In short, there is no need to beat around the (quadruple!) Pot: the 2013 F4 is irresistibly attractive. From its fork crown where two rows of bluish LEDs highlight its oblong optics to its rear shell shaped like an ogive, through its collected line and as if drawn in a single stroke, it is a real aesthetic flawless.

Not to spoil anything, the quality of realization does not suffer from any defect: the F4 is not just "beautiful from afar", it is also in its tiniest details. A very strong feeling of quality emanates from its splendid single-arm, its tubular trellis frame connected to flawless welded plates or its simply sublime upper tee..

The covering with red stitched seams of its high perched saddle (830 mm) also produces its little "racing" effect, just like its Zeus-type quarter-turn fairing screws and its beautiful tilt-adjustable footrests..

And the ramage of the F4 is at the height of its delightful plumage: the quality of its peripherals is in line with its status as an icon. A Marzocchi fork on the "standard" F4 and F4R, electronic "full" Ohlins on the F4RR, Brembo radial calipers (monobloc on the RR), Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP almost as smooth as MotoGP tires: the MV Agusta gives blisters to the eyes by dint of detailing its beautiful pieces (see all the details in our Technical point on the following pages).

Despite this sporting positioning, everyday life is not completely neglected. Evidenced by this pretty brushed metal protection installed on the single-sided arm to avoid scratching it, the instrumentation controlled on the handlebars, the bent rim valves, the adjustable levers and the presence of warning. Of course, you have to let go of the handlebars to activate these hazard lights via the switch located at the bottom left of the dashboard, but the intention is there !
