Ducati Hyperstrada test: what else ?
The Ducati Hyperstrada would be a fun motorcycle, capable of climbing trees, taunting roadsters and taking the suction of road cars. She would even allow her to take her chick to relax in Corsica and bring her croissants in the morning. And the coffee too ? Test.
Real road potential
The ideal motorcycle does not exist. Why ? Because every biker has his own way of approaching two-wheelers. And which of us has never dreamed of having several motorcycles in his garage, each of them being able to excel in a specific practice? ?
A roadster for the road, a sports car for the circuit, a supermotard for the city – show off and short trips! -, a road to investigate the terminals and exceed 300 km of autonomy, and even a scooter like, to refuel beers cold drinks for the next Grand Prix !
Difficult to collect them all, unless you have the financial means of a minister – though ?! – and a 100 m2 box … Fortunately, in 2013, Ducati is trying to satisfy all appetites with its Hyperstrada.
Who would have thought it possible, 15 years ago, to stuff yourself 900 kilometers of road and highway on the handlebars of a supermotard, with weapons and luggage, without rebuilding the engine on arrival and spending six sessions at the physiotherapist? Today, Ducati doesn’t just imagine it…
Supermoto, the Hyperstrada doesn’t just keep the spirit. Thus, like its twin Hypermotard, the latest from Bologna offers a driving position with the bust still just as straight. The arms are nevertheless higher thanks to saddles which raise the handlebars by 20 mm.
However, it is more difficult to pinpoint the differences between the Hypermotard saddle and the larger Hyperstrada saddle. After 70 km of driving however (which count twice in Corsica!), MNC can assure that the seating comfort of the road version does not call for any criticism..
This – good – point, essential for motorcyclists who intend to complete long journeys is also reinforced by the autonomy of the machine: its tank totals 16 liters, while that of the old Hypermotard 796 contained only 12.4. liters.
Thanks to a fairly small crotch section, the Hyperstrada is easy to step over despite its 850 mm seat height. The shortest on legs will be delighted to learn that Ducati offers not a low saddle, but a lowered Hyperstrada model (810 mm) thanks to a suspension link kit, downright. !
To benefit from this "lowered" version, the customer must order saon Hyperstrada in this configuration from his dealer. As such, it is necessary to note the progress made by Ducati in recent years, both in the design of its products and in its service offers (after-sales, pre-sales!).
It is surprising to note that the Ducati’s Testastretta 821 requires maintenance two and a half times less frequent than the already well-amortized 1800 cc of a Honda Goldwing! Go figure … What is certain is that with revisions spaced every 15,000 km (or 1 year) and valve clearance to be checked every 30,000 km, the Hypermotard claims the ability to ride far and long.
Of course, you have to compare what is comparable. Faced with a Goldwing, the Italian is just a humble little roadster, whose bubble for example only protects up to mid-bust. But for a motorcycle originally typed sport, the result is not so bad…
Before setting off, note that the suitcases (50 liters in all) are easily removable using the ignition key and that they can accommodate, either one, a full face helmet, or 57 briefs, or 43 boxers, or 2 Guzzi Gucci handbags !
They can be locked using a mini-padlock and are fitted as standard with an internal waterproof bag. Finally, for those – and that! – that that would not be enough, the Hyperstrada can also receive a top-case of 31 liters, options invoiced 592 € (with plate and passenger support). Ah anyway ! I can ?
