All Tests - Honda reinvests low-cost with the CBF 125 - The big gap: a dream utility?

Titillated by the success of the Yamaha YBR and by that of a multitude of low-cost motorcycles from various origins – China, but also Korea or Taiwan -, Honda launched in January 2009 a new entry-level: the CBF 125. What is worth -it in use ? Test !

The big gap: dream utility ?

While we could have qualified the launch of this novelty as "easy", compared to those more symbolic of hyper sporty models, Jean-Luc Mars, new big boss of Honda Moto France, assures us that it is not. ! Indeed, according to him, this new Honda must perform a "real big gap".

"Economical to purchase and in terms of insurance, maintenance, consumption, reliable, well-finished and with good resale value, the CBF 125 ensures a minimum cost of use", explains Jean-Luc Mars straight away.

"But we must not forget that it is a dream object", immediately rebounds the great French chef who has perfectly integrated Honda’s leitmotif:"The Power of Dreams" !

Thus, the CBF 125 would like to be utility … dream? This is what Honda wanted to demonstrate by presenting it to European journalists on the Côte d’Azur. It is therefore under the radiant sun of Nice that the CBF 125 was able to show us its talents, the main one of which – specific to the CBF family – is undoubtedly the ease. !

The riding position is most pleasant, with the handlebars placed relatively high and a saddle located 792 mm from the ground, which allows the majority of users to touch both feet on the ground. As for large sizes, their legs will not be hampered by the sides of the tank.

When stationary, the motorcycle moves as easily as a moped thanks to its featherweight of 128 kg – fully loaded – and its excellent turning radius.

Add to that an accessible side stand lug and a disconcerting ease for the crutch on its central, and you get the bases of a perfect small city car. !

A short press on the starter is enough to wake up the small piston: the sound of the pot is closer to that of a lawn mower – Honda, of course! – than that of a CBF1000, but its discretion is appreciable for the pilot and will be appreciated by road and sidewalk users.

The clutch control is operated with one finger and the gearbox responds well to the solicitation of the left foot: even beginners will launch without a shadow of apprehension. !
