After pitting the Ducati Monster 1100 against the Triumph Speed Triple, Site met face to face with the new Ducati Diva: the Streetfighter. What is the ultimate roadster from the Bologna brand in its standard version ? Test !
Real, good Street Fighting
The very first developments at the controls of the Ducati are far from obvious: the clutch is hard, the first gear very long and the front axle not that light. To be honest, we are not on a nice Japanese roadster !
With the Italian twin, it is better to avoid dropping below 3000 rpm. As a result, the bike is difficult to drive under 30 km / h without touching the left lever. Fortunately, if it is hard, it absolutely does not lack progressiveness and allows to play with the lack of flexibility of the engine..
Regarding the agility of the Streetfighter, the first impression of heaviness passes relatively quickly. Too severe steering damper, atypical Corsa III profile or too radically revised geometry – the steering column goes from 24 ° on the Superbike to 25.6 ° on the Streetfighter – we cannot really pinpoint the reason for such a feeling..
The Streetfighter is not a bicycle, not even a Velib ‘, but after a few crossroads and roundabouts you quickly learn to manage your feelings and your efforts. Too bad we can’t improve the turning radius of the beast in this way. It is sometimes not enough to follow the scooters in the lines or quickly park your motorcycle in every corner.
Good point, however, for the mirrors which in no way slow down progress towards pole position at a red light. In addition, the visibility is good: it does not vibrate and the panorama is not limited to its own elbows. !
The gearbox also shines in urban areas with its smoothness. Unfortunately, its long staging and the roughness of the mill with which it is associated force the pilot to navigate between the first three gears … so that the left forearm of the uninitiated quickly overheats !
And this is not the only part of the body that needs to show endurance! After a good quarter of an hour of driving around town – you don’t necessarily choose to stay stuck in traffic all this time! -, the slight vibrations emitted by the handlebars cause significant tingling in the hands.
At the level of the legs, the thighs – especially the right – are also put to the test: the heat given off by the rear cylinder is substantial, especially when the radiator fans start. As always, this inconvenience is observed in summer and much less – if at all, on the contrary! – in winter.
Finally, the most mijaurees will complain about the protective plate of the pot located right at the level of the right heel. Beyond the relative discomfort it provides, this piece is above all unsightly. But that’s where the burn is ?!
Under these traffic conditions, the Streetfighter’s consumption can exceed 7l / 100km. On the road, as long as you don’t attack too much, you can easily descend below 6l / 100km. In the end, the average consumption recorded over the whole of our test is 6.5 l / 100km.
