Business - A new survey paints a portrait of two-wheeled drivers in France - Have French bikers changed in five years?

It’s hard to know who the French bikers are: from the bad boy of the 50s to the quadra in a 21st century suit, a lot of oil has flowed under the bridges… An in-depth TNS Sofres survey for GEMA Prevention provides a clearer picture.

Have French bikers changed in five years ?

Since the study conducted by the Cercle Moto de GE Money Bank in 2004 for better "know the behavior of the biker consumer in France", we already had some information on this growing population of" two-wheeler users "in France (read).

In order to provide "the best possible information for companies so that they can best position themselves in each segment of the motorcycle market", the study showed in particular that women were represented at 25% among mopeds and more than 15% among motorcyclists.

For the record, cyclo users (less than 50cc) were then barely over 20 years old, while bikers and scooterists (over 50cc) were close to their forties. They lived in the Paris region for 25% of more than 50 cc and in the countryside for a third of cyclists.

At the time, two-wheeler users were divided into five groups: 31.3% of "passive motorcyclists" (frequent use but little interest in the world of motorcycles), 24.4% of "hedonistic motorcyclists" "(use only for leisure and little interest in motorcycles), 20.9% of" passionate bikers "(frequent use, reading the specialized press and participating in races), 12.4% of users" in a hurry "(occasional use and little interest in motorcycles) and finally 11% of" simple users "(frequent use but no interest in the world of two-wheelers).

On the regulatory side, we have also known since 2003 that 78% of motorcyclists admit not respecting the speed limits (read).

Finally on the consumption side, the motorcycle professionals gathered at the JPMS in Lyon in February had started a reflection to try to better seduce the drivers of urban two-wheelers (read).

Five years later, after years of the market rising until the lull caused by the financial crisis, have two-wheelers in France changed radically? This is the question posed by the Group of mutual insurance companies through its GEMA Prevention structure, which notably represents MAAF, MACIF, MAIF, Mutuelle des Motards, etc. (read).
