Ducati opens a subsidiary and a factory in Brazil
Ducati has just created its Brazilian subsidiary in Sao Paulo. The third largest motorcycle market in the world, the country also hosts an assembly plant in Manaus, from which the first South American Ducatis will emerge in a few weeks.. Explanations.
Two years after Thailand (read), Ducati has just moved to Brazil, the third largest market in the world in terms of sales of new motorcycles according to the Italian manufacturer.
"Ducati has a very strong image in this country and we enjoy enthusiastic support from Ducatists, bikers and fans in general.", observed Monday Gabriele Del Torchio, Managing Director of Ducati Motor Holding Spa, during the official opening of the Ducati subsidiary across the Atlantic (South).
"Previously, Ducati motorcycles were imported to Brazil by the Izzo group", specifies to Site the sales director at Ducati, Roberto Righi:"this procedure has been modified in order to allow Ducati to establish a presence on the market in line with its Premium status".
In addition to these new offices located in the megalopolis of Sao Paulo (financial, commercial and industrial capital of Brazil), the Italians are also preparing to launch the production of their very first Brazilian Ducatis..
The Honda example |
Honda built a factory in Manaus in 1975 (60% Honda, 40% Moto Importadora) and started production of CG in October 1976. The extreme inflation of the mid-1980s almost got the better of Honda’s presence in North America. South, but the "ceges" resisted !
Today, "Honda’s annual production amounts to 280,000 units, which represents 90% of the Brazilian market", specifies Honda France (read our). |
Because like MV Agusta (but also BMW or Sym, read), the Bologna firm has signed an agreement with the Dafra group to assemble large-displacement motorcycles directly on Brazilian territory..
And Ducati does not plan to limit itself to a small roadster (like the one "made in Thailand", read). "The Diavel was a huge success for us around the world", assures MNC Roberto Righi:"it communicates "style" and "presence", while maintaining our reputation for "hand-sewn" motorcycles with authentically Italian performance".
"We considered the Diavel to be the perfect choice for Brazilian customers and we decided to start with this model in Manaus.", tells us the big Italian boss who continues his production plan before publishing the details.
"The opening of our new subsidiary and the fact that our motorcycles are assembled at the factories in Manaus is proof of our interest in the Brazilian market.", insists Gabriele Del Torchio, who came to Sao Paulo to induct Ricardo Susini.
"I am particularly proud to have been selected to take the helm of this new and great company", rejoices the new – and the first – leader of the Reds in Brazil."I have been in the motorcycling world all my life and now being part of such a prestigious, eminent and famous brand motivates me to achieve new goals.".
"We want to achieve in Brazil the same market share in the "500 cc and over" category that we currently have in other major markets around the world … and improve the experience of Ducati owners there.", concludes Roberto Righi interviewed by Site.
