GP of Emilia Romagna - GP of Emilia Romagna Practice FP1: Quartararo starts well -

The Misano circuit is hosting its second Grand Prix of the 2020 season this weekend! Baptized GP of Emilia-Romagna, this seventh MotoGP event offers Fabio Quartararo the opportunity to erase his poor performance at the GP of San Marino… and it’s off to a good start !

Winner of the first two Grand Prix of the 2020 season contested in Jerez (Spain), Fabio Quartararo had cut himself an impeccable suit – tailor-made and of great brand, as he likes them so much – from favorite to the title of MotoGP world champion.

For Site as for many observers and fans, the very good "French 20" proved that in the absence of the champion Marc Marquez (injured from the first GP and so to speak forfeit this year), he was the man to beat this season.

Unfortunately, the formidable mechanics got stuck in Brno (7th), the Yamaha struggled too much in Spielberg (8th then 13th) and "El Diablo" got carried away last Sunday at Misano (double fall) … In four races therefore, our compatriot only gained 20 points, yielding the lead of the championship to an Andrea Dovizioso no more constant.

This weekend, Fabio must definitely catch up. His luck? The M1s are extremely fast on the Italian track! His misfortune? His teammate Franco Morbidelli has just stuck a big correction pressure by winning a majestic first victory on Sunday.

Removed from the podium in the final lap, Valentino Rossi will put his mouths in two – and swallow a second blue pill! – to try to climb on his 200th podium in the premier class, while on the second Yamaha factory, Maverick Viñales will try to finally transform his excellent practice (free, qualifying, private, etc.) into a race !

On the strength of their first experience on the new Misano tarmac, pilots from other brands will also be sharper this weekend! Hence the need for Fabio Quartararo to start from the good foot tire this Friday … What he did perfectly this morning !

Author of an excellent time in FP1 (three tenths of a second from the pole record signed last Saturday by the Spanish "Top Gun"), our "Fabio-lous frenchie" precedes the Italian-Brazilian winner of the 2020 San Marino GP…

The battle for pole position is already on: only 9 hundredths of a second separate the two Yamaha SRT riders! A fight in which the official Yamaha riders do not participate, for the moment: Viñales is satisfied with a 13th fastest time just behind Alex Marquez and Rossi of 17th behind Alex Rins.

The last driver to have turned in the same second as Quartararo, the No.42 Suzuki spares neither his right shoulder nor his GSX-RR: after having miraculously escaped a sharp high-side in the rapid sequence of turns No.5 and 6, Alex fell in the entrance of curve n ° 8, fortunately without gravity.

In third position, Pol Espargaro tends to prove that the KTM RC16 is not incompatible with the more sinuous track of Misano, just like Miguel Oliveira, solid fifth behind Joan Mir. Just behind, Takaaki Nakagami is again the first Honda rider (Crutchlow is also forfeited this weekend).

On Ducati, Andrea Dovizioso and Johann Zarco set almost the same time, half a second behind Quartararo. They are imitated by Aleix Espargaro at the controls of his Aprilia RS-GP. But the GP of Eilia-Romagna has only just begun…

After this excellent start, Fabio Quartararo will have to confirm his extreme speed on the Misano circuit. He will also and above all have to work on his starts: too often, our top driver finds himself overwhelmed on all sides in the first corners despite excellent qualifying. Go Fabio !
