GP of Emilia Romagna - GP of Emilia Romagna: Vinales winner of a crazy race in Misano -

The 2020 MotoGP season is just like this seventh event held on the Misano circuit (Italy): crazy and therefore unpredictable! Sixth driver to win this year, Maverick Vinales climbs on a 100% Spanish podium… but an Italian also deserved the victory, and a Frenchman was aiming for the Top 3. Report and videos.

This morning in Misano, the MotoGP warm-up delivered two surprises: excellent for Alex Marquez who set the best time of the session just ahead of three of the favorites to win (Vinales, Quartararo and Morbidelli), execrable for Jack Miller victim of ‘a brutal high-side when decelerating … But this afternoon, the GP of Emilia-Romagna was just as unpredictable…

Departure : Jack Miller gets off to a flying start with – thanks to! – his Ducati Desmosedici, plunging into the first sequence ahead of Maverick Vinales, Fabio Quartararo, Franco Bagnaia, Pol Espargaro, Valentino Rossi, Brad Binder, Danilo Petrucci, Franco Morbidelli, Alex Espargaro, etc..

Bagnaia passed Quartararo after the n ° 8 hairpin and quickly rejoined his Australian teammate. Passed in front of Miller, Vinales tries a breakaway. Within the peloton, Binder passed in front of Rossi. Starting from 14th place, Zarco finds himself 15th. The only driver on the field to have selected a hard rear tire, we wish him a better end of the race !

Too optimistic at the very start of the race, Aleix Espargaro lost the front end of the RS-GP and fell under the wheels of Morbidelli. The winner of the race in Misano seven days ago is forced to leave the track momentarily and starts again in last position! As if rolling around sick – like a dog it seems – wasn’t enough…

The Yamaha n ° 12 completed the first lap with half a second ahead of the two Ducati n ° 43 and 63. Deprived of the podium last week, Rossi saw his new hopes for the World Top3 (the 200th of his loooong career) disappear into the gravel at turn 4. Vale replaces his pal Franco as a lantern Red Yellow !

Supercharged, Brad Binder continues to progress within the peloton: after his Spanish leader – Pol Espargaro -, the South African doubles the Australian Jack Miller. But n ° 33 does too much and falls from his KTM in the hairpin at the end of the course !

Vinales rolls six tenths of a second ahead of Bagnaia, and two seconds ahead of P. Espargaro and Quartararo. Miller tries to pick up after a small gap, Petrucci, Mir and Lecuona roll wheel in wheel, Alex Marquez and Oliveira complete the Top 10 in front of a distraught Dovizioso – in addition to being "Unemployed" next year !.

Like Quartararo a week ago, Binder falls a second time and has to retire in the next round. Our Fabio is still in fourth place, in the wake of the KTM n ° 44 and a good distance from the peloton led by the Ducati n ° 63.

The two escaped of the day, Vinales and Bagnaia turn without hindering each other. But when Maverick widens in the straight double # 4 and 5, Franco is rushed to take control. The two bikes cover the stretch fairing against fairing, but Bagnaia wins under braking then moves away irresistibly.

Two seconds behind the new leader and one second behind Vinales, Pol Espargaro gives up some ground to our compatriot "Fabio-lous" who virtually takes back the lead of the championship! Zarco is in 13th position behind Nakagami, Petrucci and Dovizioso. Rossi is 18th and last, 26 seconds behind his comrade Bagnaia.

Restrained by a recalcitrant engine, Jack Miller joined the pits on the 9th lap, quite annoyed with his machine … The third in the championship – before this race – will lose big points against his rivals who are still on the track…

The first third of the race is over and Bagnaia gradually increases its lead over Vinales. Pol Espargaro clings to his third place and manages to keep Quartararo at bay. At this precise moment, the French have as many points (83) as Dovizioso. Ducati n ° 04 is blocked behind RRS n ° 73.

Tito Rabat bites the dust in the 13th lap. His teammate, our compatriot, Johann Zarco, is still 12th, a few lengths behind Petrucci. Two other teammates are fighting on the track for sixth place: Oliveira overtakes Lecuona on the 14th lap in hairpin n ° 8 … The Tech 3 team can be proud! And tremble, a little.

The laps follow one another without the morphology of the race changing. The Bagnaia metronome controls Vinales from a distance. Pol Espargaro gradually sees the second step move away and remains under the threat of Quartararo himself in the sights of .. Mir! Further still, Oliveira and Lecuona do not leave each other. Marquez and Dovizioso either !

With 10 laps from the end, our tasty "French 20" accelerates and approaches the podium! In two short laps, the Yamaha SRT rider finds himself in the rear wheel of his KTM target: in addition to a comforting third place, Fabio is suspicious of the three additional points in the championship. !

Conversely, Dovizioso is not in the rhythm and gives way to ninth place to Nakagami. But there is more serious for Ducati fans: Bagnaia falls from its pedestal 7 laps from the end! Vinales inherits the reins of the race with a comfortable 4-second lead over Espargaro and Quartararo who are careful not to rush their attack !

If the RC16 n ° 44 is struggling in the curves compared to the M1 n ° 20, the Austrian is resistant to acceleration and on the brakes! Careful, Fabio is patient to overtake without – too much – forcing … In doing so, he lets the excellent finisher Joan Mir go up (ask Rossi and his fans …). The n ° 36 GSX-RR spins half a second faster and revives the suspense !

Clogged in the twisty and ultra-fast sections, Quartararo does not find an opening at the start or at the end of the stretches! Mir asks a lot less questions, attacks and quickly passes Quartararo in the first winding sequence of the circuit.

The situation in the championship could not be tighter: Quartararo, Dovizioso and Vinales are tied, their three counters then posting 83 points! On the track, Iker Lecuona fell two laps from the end as he was about to achieve a magnificent "double" for the Tech 3 team in the Top 6.

Warned twice that he had exceeded the limits of the track, Quartararo had to take a “Long Lap” penalty in the final loop. But the n ° 20 does not take the loophole of turn n ° 9 and receives a penalty of three seconds which deprives him of the podium, to the benefit of Pol Espargaro.

Although dominated by Franco Bagnaia this afternoon, poleman Maverick Vinales finally transforms his excellent tests (three pole positions in 2020 already, i.e. as many as in 2019) and collects 25 extremely important points for the championship! Quartararo and him accumulate 83 points.

As fast as he is incisive, Joan Mir has progressed by one step on the Misano podium compared to last Sunday. The Suzuki rider is fourth in the provisional, just four points behind the remaining leader Andrea Dovizioso, eighth ahead of his team this Sunday.
