The Legend of Heroes arrives in Dakar
After more than 6,500 kilometers through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania and Senegal, the 130 competitors of the second edition of the Legend of Heroes reached the Lac Rose in Dakar, exhausted but happy.
All the teams, made up of three people, a motorcycle and a 4×4, do not appear in the final classification, but all are happy to have had an extraordinary experience, a real rally with its difficulties, and the happiness of to have overcome them in an atmosphere of mutual aid and friendship. Many are those who have lived the real struggles who build the Legend of rallies and who make them Heroes.
"The Legend of Heroes has taken on its true dimension and confirmed what the competitors were hoping for", rejoices on arrival Hubert Auriol, organizer of this auto-motorcycle raid from Paris to Dakar:"the course was more technical, more difficult and more interesting than last year. We have shown everyone that this is a real rally and not a fitness walk! Our goal was to bring all the competitors to Dakar. Some really struggled to get to the end, but all showed great determination. Over the days, everyone got caught up in the game and the mutual assistance between the teams was sensational. The story of The Legend of Heroes is on its way"…
Among the 130 competitors from Holland, England, Germany, Spain, Belgium, Austria, France and even China (read), the international Dakar Legend team wins. : on the handlebars of a Yamaha 500XT and at the wheel of a 4×4 Hummer H2, the Dutch Leonardus Munsters, the Austrian Friedrich Eisenkeck and the German Michael Schneider-Christians thus win the second Legend of Heroes.
The second step of the podium goes to the French Patrick Hett, who rode his Yamaha WR from start to finish within the Kimoce Free Bike team. Unaccustomed to rallies, this sportsman who regularly practices mountain biking, swimming and marathoning has only been riding a motorcycle for a year, but his regularity, his will and the experience of navigation acquired during a Dakar in which he took part in as a co-pilot allowed him to distinguish himself.
As for the team of Pierre Karsmakers, the former Motocross world champion and used to rally raids, he would have remained second if he had not broken the swingarm of his BMW HP2 motorcycle in the penultimate stage and must be content with third place.
As Hubert Auriol told us at the start (read), the Legend of Heroes will now be open to all motorcycles next year "to allow more competitors, by motorbike or 4×4, to participate in this fabulous adventure, this difficult but accessible raid, supervised by an experienced organization team", explains the organizer. See you next year !
