Market reports - April Fools' Day 2016 of the motorcycle market in France ... - First report of the full power motorcycle market

The French motorcycle market grew by + 0.8% in April … But behind this timid increase hides a predictable drop in sales of 125 and a simple catching up of large cubes. Supporting figures, MNC analyzes the monthly report.

First assessment of the full power motorcycle market

Referring to its increase of + 0.8% over the fourth month of 2016 compared to, we could believe that the market for motorcycles and scooters over 50 cc (motorcycles) is running rolls in France for days happy. This is not the case.

In the 125 cc category, first of all, the extraordinary score recorded by the Forza 125 a year ago exactly on the occasion of its launch is logically not repeated. Still the leader, Honda suffered a severe but predictable -43% which almost alone explains the -17% drop in the sector. Peugeot, Sym, Mash and Suzuki also take part, all losing a quarter of their – smaller – volumes in April.

Piaggio (+ 17%), third behind Yamaha (-3%), manages to get out of the game by offering a new model of scooter, but the latter is much less efficient than the Japanese bestsellers … Kymco (+ 3%) and KTM (+ 13%) are the only two other brands in the Top 10 to progress.

While the 125 only increased their registrations by 700 units between March and April 2016, the large cubes swelled their results by 2,750 immats! This leap is no more surprising than the slide of small cars: April 2016 marked the – true – …

Thus, the large engines saw their sales grow by + 9%. The majority of manufacturers obtain better results than in April 2015 and this time, Honda is among the good students (+ 20%) alongside BMW (+ 14%), Ducati and Triumph (+ 24% each) as well as KTM (+ 40%).

The top two brands in the ranking do not benefit as much as their little comrades: Yamaha signs a "small" + 6% while Kawasaki (+ 9%) retains its market share. Harley-Davidson (-12%), Suzuki (-28%) and Aprilia (-5%) miss this fourth month of 2016 (which had 21 working days and 22 opening days of dealerships, like April 2015).

Finally, let us note that, in addition to the market, the weather forecast gave us a late "April Fool’s Day": after three generally mild weeks, the bikers were picked up by "a northerly flow, resulting in general coolingSome were perhaps cooler at the end of the month to buy a motorcycle of – much – more than 100 horsepower. ?!
