Motorcycle sales in France increased by + 6.5% in October 2016! Bridged to 100 horsepower a year ago, large-displacement motorcycles are the main responsible for this progression.. Site takes stock.

After a successful return to school in, the French motorcycle and scooter market (125 cc and over) experienced a satisfactory tenth month, recording an increase of + 6.5% in October 2016 compared to, i.e. 620 additional registrations !

As always in its reports, Site seeks to put these monthly results into perspective. In this case, taking into account the calendar accentuates the performance of the motorcycle market: October 2016 had 21 working days, against 22 for October 2015. And the gap is even greater in terms of "opening days of dealerships" : 21 Vs 23.

Weather question, the difference between the two months of October is not significant: in 2016, "the temperature, averaged over the month and over the country, was below normal by 0.9 ° C", notes Meteo France in its own report (-0.8 ° C last year). Likewise, "the rainfall was very low for the 4th consecutive month with a deficit close to 40%". It was also in deficit in 2015.

Finally, it is by distinguishing the results of the 125 cc and the large engines that we find the beginning of an explanation: sales of 125 in France increased by + 3.7% last month (Vs October 2015), while those of the large cubes swelled by + 8.5%…

The readers of Site – who, as everyone knows, have a little more RAM than the others -, remember that last year, sales of motorcycles "+ 125 cc" had fallen by -16.1% (Vs) mainly due to the …

Unbridled motorcycles with ABS not being, we can expect that sales increases of large cubes will be observed until next March. Especially since are taking advantage of the changeover to Euro 4 (compulsory next year) to evolve, which could motivate bikers to change mounts … and will force dealers to register the latest Euro 3 models before the December 31st !

In our table of monthly sales in France – where the top ten manufacturers of large cubes appear – only Suzuki and Ducati saw their sales drop sharply … On the podium, Yamaha and Kawasaki in retreat frame a very powerful BMW. Honda and Harley positively complete the Top 5 while Triumph, KTM and Husqvarna explode their counters !

On the 125 side too, the results were mixed in October: the leader Honda fell a little more than his runner-up Yamaha while Piaggio took off again. In good shape, MBK passed a timid Peugeot but still fifth, just ahead of an explosive Kymco. KTM and Sym slow down, Orcal progresses slowly and Mash backs up.
