General increase in the market while awaiting the 2007 novelties
The motorcycle market continues to gain momentum, posting an overall 8% increase in sales over last year. But all the 2007 new products are not yet delivered to dealerships: March should be hot ! Balance sheet.
12,890 motorcycles were sold in France in February 2007. Among them, 7,289 large engines and 5,601 125cc vehicles, the two sectors progressing by 1.5% and 19.7% respectively.
Small-engine sales continued to increase and Yamaha took the reins of the 125 market, despite the notable absence of its YBR. Behind, the Piaggio MP3 is on a par with its cousin X9 and the Peugeot Satelis allow the French manufacturer to double its sales !
Sides large cubes, the 2007 novelties are long overdue, especially at Kawasaki. On the contrary, Yamaha, Honda and even Ducati achieve good scores with their newly arrived sports cars..
Market 125
At the top of the standings, the battle is intensifying between Yamaha and Piaggio: the Italian passed last month ahead of the Japanese, on the strength of the good results of his MP3 (259 sales), X9 (258) and X8 (184). Thanks to these three scooters, the sales of the Pontedera firm was able to show an increase of 33% compared to last year..
Yamaha is in the opposite situation, showing a decrease in its registrations of 11.9%: deliveries of Majesty have fallen (197 against 443 in January) and the small YBR continues to be hit hard by the presence of the Chinese in the segment. low-cost.
Fortunately for the brand with three tuning forks, its Xmax had an excellent month of February: at the top of all-displacement sales, Yamaha’s high-end scooter sold 465 copies..
The second best-selling position is shared by two radically opposed vehicles, the manufacturers of which had a very different month of February. !
With 345 sales, the Honda Varadero 125 is the only representative of "motorcycles" in the top 15 of the 125cc for February! Honda is slowing down (-21.3%), however, mainly because of its Pantheon scooter at the end of the race, which only sold 104 copies..
With 345 sales as well, the Burgman hoists Suzuki to 4th place among manufacturers! The increase in sales of Japanese is significant compared to last year with + 47%, which allows it not to be left behind in the cumulative sales of the year by Peugeot.
If we put aside Sym and its 130.5% increase in sales – for a small volume of 136 vehicles for the moment – Peugeot is making the best progress (+ 116.2%). Sochaux’s Satelis have sold 319 copies (standard and Kompressor versions combined).
Suddenly, the 7.31% market share of the French is almost a point above the value of the brand at the end of last year (6.5%) and is not commensurate with the 3.95% recorded in February 2006. Aprilia is also doing well with a recovery of 20.8% of its registrations.
At MBK, on the other hand, the mood is more gloomy as sales are down 23.5% compared to last year. Indeed, the Skycruisers (84 sales) and Skyliners (100) are jostled in the standings by the Jonway YY100 (87) and Yiying YY125T (110) … Quite a symbol !
But if Yiying still appears in 10th place in the table of manufacturers over the first two months, his comrades are still drowned in the "Others" category which today represents nearly a quarter of French sales. !
In February, aside from Yiying (110 sales) and Jonway (108), the "others" were mainly made up of Sky Team (83), KTM (73), JMStar (69), Haizhimeng (52), Baotian (46) , Husqvarna (42), Hyosung (37), Fym (36), Kinroad (33) and Keeway (31).
Large engine market
As in 125cc, Yamaha is fighting a duel for first place, but this time against Suzuki. Because in large displacement, Piaggio and its scooters are obviously not of size to fight against the roadsters 600 of the competition, even if last month the bestsellers slowed down somewhat..
The first place is certainly occupied by the ER-6, which thus limits the breakage at Kawasaki (-31.7% all the same): the Greens await the release this month of its new Z1000 (read) and Z750 ( soon to be tested on Moto-Net).
But behind the little roadster and its 385 sales hide two Yamaha unaccustomed to the sales podium..
The performance of the Tmax, even if it is present every month in the top 15 of more than 125 cc, is still to be highlighted with 280 sales in February..
As for the R1, slightly behind the maxi-scoot – some would like to see that! -, it takes advantage of its launch to register the trifle of 275 copies! The opportunity to verify again that the sports motorcycle is not dead in France !
Especially since two other sports cars were illustrated last month: the Honda CBR 600 and 1000, sold respectively 140 and 111 copies. Conversely, the new Hornet only sold 157 units, a relatively low score which causes the world number one to lose valuable market share….
Opposite, the Yamaha Fazer 600 and FZ1 are doing better with 273 and 170 sales respectively. And by supporting the registrations of the Tmax and the R1, the two roadsters allow Yamaha to increase its sales by 27.9% compared to February 2006.
Behind the four Japanese, BMW is continuing its ups and downs: after a very satisfactory month of January, the Bavarian has a more disappointing month of February (-12.3%). While three of his models were in the top 15 the previous month, in February his best bike – the R1200R – fell in 22nd place.
The relatively mild weather conditions at the start of the year were not successful for the R1200GS (62 sales) but they smiled more on the KTMs: the Austrian saw his sales increase by 22% last month. Its 250 EXC-F sold at 62 copies attests to the survival of the practice of enduro.
But of all the manufacturers, it is Triumph which records the most beautiful progression with + 42.9%, granting itself 3.71% of net share compared to 2.66% in February 2006. With its trio Speed Triple (75 sales) , Daytona 675 (50) and Tiger (41), the Briton even allows himself to overtake Harley-Davidson, whose sales are however also on the rise (+ 11.8%).
For its part, Ducati sold 50 of its Superbike "1098" models, compensating for the small shape of its Mostros. In the end, the Italian signs an increase in its registrations of 17.4% over the month of February and returns to its 2006 level in the cumulative of the first two months of the year..
Finally Piaggio totals 117 sales, beating the Spanish Gas-Gas by one unit, while behind, Aprilia is in 12th position with 81 sales, Beta 61, Moto Guzzi 59, Husqvarna 49, Buell 44, HM 39, Sherco 38 and Peugeot 31. Finally, note that MV Agusta has registered 19 motorcycles, Morini 6, Benelli 5 and Voxan 5.
