Further decline in the motorcycle and scooter market

The results of the French motorcycle and scooter market in November (8,249 registrations or -9.4% compared to last year, read our) abruptly ends the "enchanted parenthesis" experienced by the motorcycle world. last week, thanks to the return of the Mondial du deux-Roues Motorcycle, Scooter and Quad Show at Porte de Versailles (read our)…

Surveyed by more than 180,000 visitors (read), the three halls (5, 6 and 8) of the Porte de Versailles exhibition center and their impeccable stands allowed French bikers to discover the 2012 novelties from all manufacturers, large and small (read our).

Will this podium-licking session actually push motorized two-wheelers to cross the threshold of a dealership and fall for the model spotted, photographed and ridden a few days earlier in Paris? Only the report for the month of December will reveal it….

In the meantime, the results for the month of November are not very good, in particular for the 125 cc whose sales have plunged by a quarter compared to November 2010! The large engines (the "more than 125 cc") are a little better off with a monthly increase of + 3.6% and manage to maintain their general trend for 2011.

However, as last October, the thermometer maintained near-record levels: "November 2011 is therefore the second hottest November since the beginning of the 20th century."says Meteo France. Like what good weather is not enough to sell two-wheelers !

It can be noted, however, that massive precipitation in the Pyrenees and around the Mediterranean – "three to four times higher than normal"in this region! – may have slowed down or even stopped the activity of certain two-wheeler professionals.

Nothing to report on the other hand as regards the working days (20 in November 2010 and 2011) or the "opening days of concessions" (perfect equality also, 20 everywhere). Likewise, All Saints’ Monday fell this year again a day after Sunday.

Only November 11 has – possibly – been able to slow down sales in the middle of the month: the French have certainly taken more advantage of Friday to go for the weekend (the 11 fell on a Thursday last year, which made it necessary to take a day off).

Back from their three-day getaway – to London, Rome or Melun? – would bikers and scooter riders have preferred to wait for the show at the beginning of December to confirm their order for Christmas? Check it out next month on Site … To be patient, here are the complete reports of the November market in 125 and "more than 125" in detail … Enjoy your reading !
