The market is picking up slowly

After having endured a gray and rainy season, French bikers benefited from a much sunnier, hot and drier month of September (apart from impressive "Cevennes episodes"which also continue at the beginning of October).

The blue sky helping, some of our fellow citizens have therefore found the smile and the path of the concessions they had lost in August! The figures tend to prove it: 11,892 motorcycles and scooters (over 50 cc) were registered in September 2014, which is a little better than last year (read our).

Sellers of new motorcycles, however, are not so happy: like Site and its readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than the others! -, they noticed that compared to September 2013, the French had an additional day to do their shopping … and a day more to register them.

Also, the + 5.2% increase recorded last month by the French motorcycle market can be purely and simply erased if we compare the scores of September 2013 and September 2014 to the number of equivalent working days….

Among the 125 cc, the increase in sales last month was nonetheless not insignificant – and not erasable – since it reached + 8.4%. Main event in September in this sector: the drop in speed of the favorite of the French, the Xmax, in favor of another Yamaha product…

The French number one ends this ninth month on a + 28% which amazes its two direct rivals Honda (-16%) and Piaggio (-13%)! Peugeot – and MBK especially – positively complete the Top 5 with + 22% and + 89% respectively, while Mash dominates the second half of the table !

As for the big cars, the top of the ranking is upset: BMW is shaking up the Japanese by setting its record straight. Yamaha nevertheless remains the undisputed number one thanks to its MT-07…

Behind Yamaha (+ 19%) and BMW (+ 20%), Honda and Kawasaki have experienced a more disappointing comeback (-13% and -5%), just like Suzuki (-6%) which cedes fifth place to Harley-Davidson (+ 2%). And September was not better for the other major players…
