Motorcycle license - Insurers are divided on the new mandatory 125 training -

Mandatory since January 1 (read), the new training for car license holders wishing to taste the joys of the 125 (motorcycle or scooter) divides insurers specializing in two-wheelers. Example with Patrick Jacquot from the Motards Mutual and Franck Allard from AMV.

In 3 hours, it’s nonsense !

For Patrick Jacquot, CEO of Mutuelle des Motards, "if the government objectives are respected by the training organizations, the drivers of 125 will be as comfortable on their mount as the holders of the motorcycle license! But we forgot a zero in the duration of the training. In 3 hours, such a specification is nonsense", believes the boss of the Mutual in a press release.

"We weren’t expecting a miracle", he continues:"even on a scooter, and without having to master a motorcycle with a manual gearbox, three hours are not enough to acquire the autonomy necessary to navigate the road safely. This is also the reason why the Mutual has offered its members since 1996 ten hours of initiation to the 125. With the obligation to perform this pseudo-training on a motorcycle with a gearbox, when scooters represent more than 70% of the market 125, we couldn’t be more out of step with reality".

At AMV, the point is more measured. Asked by Site, Franck Allard, its founder and president, readily admits that he is "very shared"not only on the content of this compulsory training, but also on its very existence.

The frequency of accidents decreases from year to year, especially in 125

"At first glance, it makes sense to require training. And an insurer cannot be against what can help reduce risk", indicates the boss of AMV."But I also note that the frequency of two-wheeler accidents (the ratio between the number of accidents and the number of insured) decreases from year to year, especially in 125! It is therefore not obvious that the training corresponds to a real need"…

Thus since 1996, date of the reinstatement of the B / 125 permit equivalence, AMV has not noted "no increase"the frequency of accidents."Today the authorities are aware of the two-wheelers because the number of accidents has increased, but the fleet has increased considerably! And all my colleagues will confirm it to you: the frequency of accidents is decreasing !"

"Let’s not forget that everyone is different", continues Franck Allard who regrets that"we spend our time generalizing things":"Some riders are more skilled on a two-wheeler than others, some rode a moped at the age of 14, others not, etc. We must not imagine that people are dumped on a two-wheeler: if they do, it is because they feel capable !"

"I am not an anarchist", warns the big boss,"but in France we love to legislate and impose the same thing on everyone … There are however other measures to improve the safety of two-wheelers, such as allowing them to use the bus lanes! I find it unlikely that in Paris, motorcycles are forced to stay in the muddle of traffic !"

In the meantime, the government has planned to evaluate the measure in early March, three months after its entry into force: the opportunity to generalize it, improve it or even bury it with honors? To be continued … Stay connected !
