The compulsory training of seven hours instead of three, decided by the Interministerial Committee for Road Safety on February 18, 2010 (read) and initially scheduled for July 1 (read) but long postponed (read), has finally been formalized. by a decree published in the Official Journal of November 16. It will come into force on January 1, 2011.

From January 1, 2011, a seven-hour training will therefore be compulsory for holders of B license (car license) wishing to drive "a light motorcycle or a three-wheeled vehicle of more than 50 cm3", indicates the decree n ° 2010 -1390 of November 12, 2010 relating to "various road safety measures", published in the Official Journal of November 16, 2010.

Article R. 221-8 of the Highway Code therefore now provides that "category B of the driving license authorizes driving, on national territory, of a light motorcycle on the dual condition that the driver holds this license category for at least two years and that they have followed practical training provided by an establishment or an association approved under Article L. 213-1 or L. 213-7. However, the condition relating to practical training is not required of drivers who can prove that they have been driving a light motorcycle during the five years preceding January 1, 2011. Proof of this practice is provided by the production of a document issued by the insurer and attesting to the subscription of insurance covering the use of such a vehicle during the period considered ".

As for Article R. 233-1 of the Highway Code, which lists the documents to be presented in the event of a roadside check (driving license, vehicle registration document, etc.), it now includes a " proof of practical training or document attesting to driving experience ".
