A smooth Brutale for 2011 !
Like Ducati and its Monsters or Triumph with its Triple, MV Agusta targets an increasingly large clientele and agrees to pacify its roadster. In its latest version ‘921’, the Brutale wants to be easier on a daily basis. Presentation.
Sweet Brutal
At the last EICMA show in Milan, MV Agusta had decided to bet everything on his next F3 (read). Under their large marquee, the Italians exhibited a single copy of the Supersport expected for next fall and already announced a "naked" version of the beautiful, called B3, for the start of year 2012…
As an aside, however, the people in charge of the Varese brand had warned us of the imminent arrival of a new Brutale model, very interesting because it was placed "below 12,000 euros". Promised thing, due thing: the new Brutale – and not" Brutalina "as we had been whispered in Milan – will be available in Italy at a price of 11,990 euros from the end of February 2011 (same available for France) !
Just like its price – low for an MV – the evolution of this emblematic model aims for better accessibility and more ease in everyday life. Also, the "short" Brutale is equipped with a more welcoming double-deck saddle.
The Brutale at twelve thousand
"This new element is lower (825 mm, NDLR)and thinner (…), more comfortable for the pilot and the passenger"Says MV Agusta, firmly determined to make his roadster more livable in the city."The indicators are no longer integrated into the mirrors and adopt a position making them more visible in traffic (and cheaper? Editor’s note) ", continues the transalpine manufacturer.
Likewise, without completely breaking with the sporting temperament of its ancestors, the very last Brutale adopts a suspension configuration "softer and more comfortable"By default. But purists rest assured: the hydraulics of the Marzocchi fork (50 mm in diameter!) and that of the Sachs rear shock absorber are adjustable."With just a few clicks, you can easily transform the Brutale into a track weapon", assure the engineers !
The rest of the Brutale’s cycle part remains unchanged from the 990R and 1090R versions with which it now shares the MV Agusta stage. We find the mixed frame steel trellis and aluminum plate with its frame angle of 25 ° (drag 103.5 mm) and its wheelbase of 1430 mm.
The only modification reported by the manufacturer: "a new steering column that offers rigidity optimized for this type of motorcycle, undoubtedly allowing it to become a new benchmark in terms of ease of handling", humbly predicts MV Agusta.
Pirelli Angel pavement (180 mm at the rear) and fitted with a foolproof Brembo braking system – but ABS is not available as an option – the Brutale promises to be both agile and safe. We just ask to verify it !
On the engine side in any case, satisfaction should be there: the "new" 4-cylinder that equips the Brutale benefits from the very latest "Made in Italy" technologies….
921 cc = 129 hp
The 921 – in relation to its displacement – takes up the relatively long stroke of 55 mm of the 990R and 1090RR () as well as their crankshaft, their balancing arm, their lubrication system and oil cooling of the alternator … On the other hand, it differs from it by being satisfied with a bore of 73 mm.
In the end, the engine of the new Brutale therefore develops "only" 129 horsepower at 10,500 rpm and 95 Nm at 8,100 rpm. But the manufacturer claims to have worked on the roundness of the engine and claims that the Brutale can reach a top speed of 265 km / h !
At the same time, MV Agusta praises the merits in terms of softness – again! – the Mikuni injection rail – oops, made in Japan – and the Marelli 5SM injection system. Elements that had been introduced on the new Brutale 2010, as well as the two mapping modes (Normal and Sport) as well as the traction control adjustable to eight notches that we find on this Brutale "921".
The liquid cooling system was also revised on the occasion of this reboring, "in order to keep the engine temperature under control even in the most extreme conditions on the track as in town".
Unveiled in her black dress, the Brutale will also be available in a white color which remains to be discovered, as will the exact price in France – under the "twelve thousand" also, hopefully – of this "sweet" Brutale … To be continued : stay connected !
