New motorcycle 2015: Suzuki GSR 1000, finally !
Since the time it was expected, here it is finally this Suzuki GSR 1000, a sports roadster closely derived from the Hypersport GSX-R1000! The finalized prototype surprised by the specialist of the "stolen" photo Chris Doane Automotive shows a motorcycle with a neat cycle part and a look modeled on that of the GSR 750 .

The missing link
Between the aging Bandit 1250 (now) and the late Hayabusa motorized extreme, the Suzuki range lacked a 1000cc sporty roadster to get out of the way with the Kawasaki Z1000, Honda CB1000R, Yamaha FZ1 and the explosive KTM Superduke 1290, BMW S1000R and other Monster 1200 (read our).
Yet Suzuki has for a long time, with its excellent, the basis to design such a motorcycle without having to spend insane amounts of R&D. It is enough to slightly modify the 4-cylinder in line of 999 cc of the "Gex" to favor its revivals by sacrificing some horses (185 ch and 11.67 mkg of torque on the GSX-R), then to graft it a good cycle part and voila !
According to the stolen photo opposite, the coat of arms of Hamamatsu has finally decided to apply this recipe to create the expected GSR 1000.
On the menu, therefore, the 4-legged, probably retouched in terms of injection and camshaft profile to give it a better torque curve at low and mid-range. The silencer, short and in low position, is visually well integrated.
Why was the GSR 1000 not released sooner ? |
Undress a sports car to make a punchy roadster at a lower cost: the recipe has been known and widely followed by the competition for many years. And this strategy has met with some success, since sporty roadsters are now more often renewed than Superbikes from which they mostly come. ! At Suzuki, however, the approach took longer to materialize, in the same way that the GSR 750 landed in the mid-size roadster segment seven years (!) After the Kawasaki Z750 … one of the consequences of the crisis, which is particularly severe on the finances of the manufacturer of Hamamatsu. Result: an almost total "freeze" of the new development program on the Suzuki side for several years. Returning to a more offensive strategy, notably through the, Suzuki brings out its dormant projects and begins – finally – its conquest of the large roadster market via the GSR 1000. Note that this model was so eagerly awaited by the network that some dealers like Moto Virus or Espace Moto 95 offered their own interpretation, already based on the GSX-R1000 ! |
Fashion being with "electronic toys", it is a safe bet that the engineers will have kept on the GSR 1000 the choice on the handlebars between different maps present on the sports car. A device released for the first time on a production motorcycle on the GSX-R1000 in .
The presence of an ABS seems acquired, since a toothed crown and a sensor are visible on the front wheel, while an anti-skid is probably planned to channel the ardor of this roadster potentially capable of outputting more than 160 hp.
Cycle part level, the novelty embeds a pretty inverted fork whose sleeves are gold anodized and 4-piston radial brake calipers at the front. The swingarm seems rather sturdy and its banana shape evokes that of the hyperport, while the chassis is of the perimeter type.
It remains to be seen whether these important elements are in aluminum as on the Gex or in steel – a heavier but less expensive material – to contain the price … Because this is the main argument on which Suzuki could rely for ensure the success of the GSR 1000, despite its late arrival on the market: at a time when many radical roadsters flirt or even exceed € 13,000 (€ 15,690 for the!), a dynamic and punchy motorcycle – à la image of the GSR 750 – at a well-placed price could win the jackpot.
And at Suzuki, the right product at a low price, we know how to do it perfectly! Answer next October at the Cologne Motorcycle Show or the following month at the EICMA in Milan, during which the Hamamatsu coat of arms will officially unveil this long-awaited GSR 1000.
