Photos of the replacement for the R1200GS have once again invaded the web and revive rumors of an upcoming release of the liquid GS. Asked by Site, the boss of BMW Motorrad France did not wish to confirm … nor deny !
In the big trails segment, the successive arrival of the Ducati Multistrada and Yamaha Super Tenere (read in particular our), then the new Moto Guzzi Stelvio 8V (read our), and finally the presentation of the future Honda Crosstourer and Triumph Tiger Explorer have eclipsed the queen BMW R1200GS … at least in the media.
The announcement made by BMW Motorrad at the last Milan Motor Show concerning a Rally version of its bestseller certainly did not change the situation (read). On the other hand, the publication of photos – more or less stolen – changed everything !
Today we only speak of the replacement for the R1200GS: the very one that will release – the pictures confirm it – a brand new water-cooled Boxer, an engine which will then find its place on the RT and R models of the Flat Twin range.
In order not to confuse the experts, the two cylinders retain – partially – their typical fins, but we note the appearance of new cylinder heads, a new location of the supply – from the top and no longer from the rear – and corresponding exhausts – downwards, which will further increase the valuable cooling in dynamics !
In the photos – worthy of a professional … – also appear the cardan transmission on the left (as on the K series), radial-mounted brake calipers, new LED lights and mischievous side guards in horn- the eye !
For the moment Marcel Driessen, general manager of BMW Motorrad France, did not wish to comment on these leaks on this next BMW model. To follow on the Site: stay connected !
