Paton presents his first road bike: the S1 !
The neo-retro is popular in the motorcycle industry and there are many ” good old ” brands trying to make a comeback! This will be the case in 2014 for Paton: the Italian manufacturer (re) is talking about him with a model called S1. Info, photos and video.
S1: the first Paton de route !
Norton and his, Indian and, Brough Superior and his or Royal Enfield and his: there are no shortage of examples to illustrate the fact that "Vintage" is a fundamental trend in the motorized two-wheeler sector.
Unity is strength … of Italy ! |
Announced at the last EICMA fair in Milan, the creation of the company "Officina Moto Italia"should allow four prestigious transalpine brands to return to the forefront: Paton, Magni, Zaeta and CR&S. By pooling their resources, these four small companies seek to limit costs, but at the same time want to keep their own identities … Business to follow ! |
This wave of neo-retro is also surfed by the – most – major current motorcycle brands: Triumph with its, Moto Guzzi and, Kawasaki and its, Honda and its, BMW and its, Yamaha and its …
In 2014, Paton will join the movement by offering his S1, a completely new model. And for good reason: it is about "the first Paton road bike after more than 40 years of Grand Prix competition", underline the Italians! p> Baptized S1 (like" Stradale 1 ", or first road), this new motorcycle with the look of old should land on the Italian roads next year. According to our colleagues of, the first copies should even leave the factory in March 2014.
Thanks Paton !
Roberto Pattoni, Giuseppe’s son originally with the brand’s Lino Tonti, plans to produce 50 to 100 machines per year, and sets the price for each motorcycle at "around € 25,600". A very high price considering the engine size (650 cc) and its origin…
Indeed, the parallel twin that equips the S1 is none other than the Kawasaki ER-6 mill! We find on the beautiful Italian (see the technical sheet on the next page, the photos on the third page and a video on the last page) the same values as those of the little roadster and Kawasaki bestseller.
Visibly satisfied with the maximum performance of the Japanese twin, the Italians grafted it as it is: the new Paton develops 72.1 horsepower at 8,500 rpm and benefits 1,500 rpm lower with a maximum torque of 64 Nm. have fun on the road, especially since the advertised weight is damn low…
According to its designers, an S1 in running order would weigh only 158 kg! Attractive, this value must however be verified … In the meantime, the owners of ER-6f can testify: the 209 kg of their "Kawette" are easily catapulted by the twin cylinder. The Kawa engine should therefore shine on the little Italian.
The Italians have already timed the beast: "3.9 seconds at 0 to 100 km / h"for a top speed of"more than 215 km / hFast, the S1 should also be nimble: the wheelbase is only 1390 mm !
Side cycle, the Paton has a tubular steel frame – "what did you expect?" – to which are mounted a sturdy 43mm Paioli fork at the front and two attractive Ohlins shocks at the rear. The spoked wheels are of "current" dimensions: 17 inches, 120/70 and 160/60.
In terms of brakes, the Paton does not give in to the trend – new, this one! – radial fixing brackets. Thus, the elements selected in the Brembo catalog fit perfectly with the general appearance of the motorcycle which pays homage to the 500 Grand Prix of the 70s..
The gasoline tank (16 liters) smells of the Seventies, as does the complete trim painted in green and crowned with the "regulatory" yellow plates. Micro mirrors, LED indicators, integrated brake light, tiny lens headlights: the face of the Paton S1 makes you dizzy. Like its price !
